Big up the MX5 boys, they also seem to have a good series on their hands for the future. |

Had a chat with Christian today seem like an ok guy and confirmed prices etc Whos actually running the series seems like he is really involved but thought they were just a team in it? MaX5 Racing - John & Alyn run the championship I thought Not being "funny" in anyway just checking who's who & what's what Any idea why the 1800 engine wasn't choosen was this not in the MKI? John |

My car is comming from Autolink. A guy called Andrew Stott who races in the series is the owner and very keen.
Shearspeed are the biggest team in the series and as such doing a great job to promote it. They were very helpfull when I spoke to them and I've never heard a bad word about Christian or Paul and they've both been around a while so I would know if there were any. They are also both very good drivers well above club racing champion standard which will increase the championship driving standard in general. Alyn and Jon are MaX5 Racing. Alyn is the technical one and I found the most helpfull. Don't think he is in Uk at the moment though. Don't know about the 1.8 appart from obvious cost difference and heavier diff. I spoke to Alyn very briefly as he is in the states.
Something I was wondering about today why use expensive racing alloys and not the standard alloys you could allow just the Minilite type ones) Adds £800+ to the price if you have a dry set and a wet set. May be the tyres weren't available in that size?? |

I've been following this thread from the begining and am delighted that the MX5 has made it (back) to the circuit... I always thought it would make a good racer. I do however have an 'issue' with Colway tyres - which incidentally, being re-treads, are being outlawed in the bluebook next year (unless otherwise states in SRs).
You all seem to be agreeing that £6-7k for a years racing is a cheap option which surprises me as I speng only £3k a year doing 10 races in Spitfire. This year I had to miss four races due to engine destruction and have £1250 left of my budget. I also managed to write-off my car twice last year, did two complete rebuilds and six races within budget. You can buy a ready to race one for about £4-5k or one that needs a little 'tidying' for less. One guy picked his up for £1300 and is already on the pace. Our lap record at Mallory (for comparison) is 55.003 seconds - so they aren't slow either. So if you really want cheap racing I only know of the Metro's that can be done for less... |

No we saying we can build cars for £5K-£6K
Racing should only cost entry fees plus pads plus fuel can't see how any racing can be cheaper Sorry but personally I want to race a modern rear wheel drive car or I'll carry on with FFZetec or buy a FF1600 |

I hear what you are saying there and if I hadn't already put so much time and effort into my Spitfire then I would be seriously thinging about this championship.
But as for racing only costing fees, plus pads, plus fuel.... Oh, don't I just wish... To quote someone who has previously won our championship while in discussion about racing... "Face it, racing is expensive and winning is bloody expensive!" It seems (after researching) that there are a lot of series out there that you can race in for under £5k a year. Some a lot less - like SELOC, MGCC Metros, Spitfires etc... but at the end of the day... you want to be driving a car that appeals to you. And generally speaking the winners are spending a lot more budget than the also rans Even Locost racing isn't that Locost anymore... |

Similar cars in good running condition are available for £4-4500, I know of at least 2 that are for sale. PM if you are interested and I will supply contact details. I firmly believe that Monoposto 1800 is one of the most cost effective forms of racing in the UK; it just needs a bit more support as currently it runs alongside the Mono 2000 class. |

If I was to race in it full time then I'd buy something cheaper and faster Might come and have a play next year if I don't sell it though! |

Had been following the series in the motorsport press and it still looks just as good when the mx-5 first raced in its own championship
hopefully we will be seeing them country wide in 2005! |

I'm so busy at the moment I have had to put off its collection but Autolink have been very helpful and patient. The kit is due this week, I still need a garage to build it in and I'm flat out all week but hopefully the week after next, I should be able to get started.
In the last week I have bumped into 5 MaX5 competitors on track days, so have even more un-biased info. Budgets seem to be around the £4k mark plus car. 2 cars are for sale at £7500 and two of the guys I spoke to recon it cost £5k to build their cars so thats real promising in my book. I am led to believe 10 kits were sold around October so something like 28 cars are in build or existance. I bet after the autosports show more will join so I recon next year will be very good grids. Come on Zetec... you know you want to!! |

If not I'll drive it in Avon National and UKFFC. Might have a play in 750mc or mono 1800 providing they don't want joining fees championship registration fees and an entry fee just for 1 or 2 rounds. Do you race on your own or behind the FVL F3 and FF2000s ? |
