Yup, 2004 was the disappointing year for both Rubens and Montoya.

Rubens made disappointing use of an awesome car - Montoya made slightly above average use of a disappointing car, but having a few brillaint drives and a lot of appalling luck along the way. You can't directly compare them both as 'disappointing years' as such.

Sorry Boots, but I disagree.
While brilliant at some races, he was prety average at others (even for the car). The 2 races preceeding his win come to mind. |

I don't see how 'pretty average at some races' doesn't agree with 'slightly above average [for the season as a whole]. You're right that Ralf returned on very impressive form and had strong races at China and Japan, but it was a different story for much of the season.

Generally Montoya got more out of the Williams, more often than his teammate.

Dont disagree with that at all, but thats a little like saying Webber got more out of the Minardi the Yoong. Monty's team mates (IMO) had 'less than average' seasons.
Anyways, it was pointed out the guy that came 2nd in the championship had an average season (and he did) and it was compared to Monty. I've seen JPM have much stronger seasons than 2004 (even allowing for the car) so IMO, it was not 'above average'. |

I hate to nit-picky..but it partly involves a backmarker... LOL
But honestly, i've seen and i would have expected more from JPM considering the way he's supposed to be "special". I doubt anybody could be genuinely feel impressed with the season of either JPM and Rubens OVER A SEASON, and to term them as the "BEST Latin driver" is almost bordering of a joke, considering how they have fared compared not only to fellow Latin drivers, but also compared to their fellow collegues in F1 (not just within the team). Next year MUST be better if they want to show that they are the real stuff, and not living off their hyped reputation in the media. |

I don't think either of them were particularly impressive in 2004. Surely there was someone else out there who performed better...
