Dave Richards awarded CBE
Prodrive founder and former BAR Honda Team Principle Dave Richards has been awarded a CBE for Services to Motor Sport in the New Years Honours List.
Dave Richards' first Formula One involvement as Team Principle came in September 1997 when he joined Benetton. 13 months later Richards and the Benetton family parted ways and Richards would concentrate on the World Rally Championship until he joined the BAR at the end of 2001. Prodrive employs nearly 900 staff in the UK, US, Germany, Thailand and Australia with a turnover in excess of £110 million. |

The word's Principal - principle means something else entirely.
Congratulations to David Richards for an achievement well deserved. Formula 1 is just the tip of the iceberg of his success - 6 WRC and 5 BTCC titles as manager, plus his success as a rally co-driver. |

Very well deserved.
No-one could deny the great achievements of David Richards - and it's right he is being honoured. |

Delighted for David - a 'mover' if there ever was one.
Warmest congratulations! |

CBE's the higehst one below a knighthood or damehood - OBE's next with MBE being the lowest (although still a nice thing to have). It's great that David's been honoured this year, there are some really worthy names on the list this year, although the knighthood for Digby Jones is an insult.

Well done David.....although a knighthood would be more appropriate I feel. One for the future, ay?
Anyone care to bash DR now? |

It all depends what the crivens these stupid awards are for...
Someone doing something amazing I can understand, but why is Richards getting an award for his job? He has earned a lot of money through a career he has chosen to pursue...why not honour people who do extraordinary things? Bloody Matthew Pinsent gets a knighthood for making a living out of rowing boats, I ask you! |

People with four olympic gold medals (won at four different games) are hardly common place. These people are sung about, but they are as deserving as the un-sung ones to. In addition it is good that the famous people who receive one get recognised at the same time, with the same reward as the 'ordinary' people. it shows there is no difference. Don't recognise these people's achievements if you like, but I am pleased that our country does. Last edited by Adam43; 1 Jan 2005 at 19:41. |

I think it is great for motorsport to have important figures - such as DR- recognised. He has worked hard and been successful in many different ways. I think it is well deserved.

An embarassment all round really. Rather like the Button incident.... and the Burns incident from a few years ago... (someone here said DR was a younger Tommy Walkinshaw... ) |

Nah, DR could never be as 'successful' as TW, but then I'd forgive Tom pretty much anything after getting Jaguar winning again How is Tom, I here he is down with you

TW is turning Holden Motor Sport on its head, having done some sort of deal to take it over, and run the engine and chassis supply program himself....
On the strength of that news, Holden's best 2004 team has chosen not to be a customer of Holden Motor Sport in 2005... and instead have bought the HMS chassis builder, and sourcing engines from another team instead.... ... while it seems TW has bought a racing team again.... and lost that team's major sponsor at the same time... sound familiar? |

The world does not revolve around Australia!
Lets not forget ProDrive are multiple race winners around the world and multiple world champions. And this is a second career for David Richards, who himself is a world champion co-driver in rallying. |
