A torrential afternoon practice session in Watkins Glen saw Villeneuve out-qualify everyone. By 11 seconds.Scheckter stated: "I scared myself rigid that day, I thought I had to be quickest. Then I saw Gilles's time and - I still don't really understand how it was possible. Eleven seconds !"

I really don't have any strong preferences. I like Team Australia (Walker) and Mi-Jack from the perspective that they're very committed to what they do, despite financial difficulties and they do a heck of a job considering what they have. HVM also deserves mention. From last year to this year HVM has basically gone from fully sponsored to DCRII. Wiggans & Co. deserve credit for sticking it out when the going got tough. It would have been really easy for them to simply close shop and no one could have blamed them.
