Refutation - don't think it was meant to be "one for one" style offer - people who went to Indy still got a day out watching at least some F1 cars - something which a heck of a lot of countries don't get.
The Champ Car organisers obviously recognise that their tickets aren't worth as much, and it's small beer compared to the big F1 events, but let's face it - how many other organisers in the world would accept a USED ticket to get into an event for free? In my view: the selfish and greedy go and grab a refund, and then sit grumpy and feel sorry for themselves. Those with a little spark to them go and get a free Champ Car event with support races, and be thankful that at least some race organisers appreciate the fans, and accept that they didn't get their money's worth when it mattered, but at least they got an extra day out which they wouldn't have done before. I think this is fantastic for Champ Car - it's a series I've not seen anything of in recent years, but if I were in the USA right now, after being at Indy, I'd be booking cheap last min flight tickets for Cleveland with a very big healthy smile on my face... |

great move and surley will give champcar an egde over the IRL and not to mention reduces the importance of the IMS track itself.

Top job champ car! I've been to a couple of CART races as well as the Indy 500 in the past and much prefer them to F1 anyday so this is a brilliant move.

Very eloquently put NewBob - any refund may take a long time to come anyway, and at least this way you're guaranteed to get an afternoon out and some high quality racing in a championship you may have otherwise ignored. ChampCars isn't the only winner, and it's not a foregone conclusion that Tony George is a loser in it all - at least fans may retain interest in open-wheel racing this way.

Nice sentiment from CC, but if the other F1 fans that were at Indy feel like me, they are to fatigued and disenchanted with any type of racing at the moment. It will take some time before fans are ready to go back to the track. Plus, I'm tapped out! That trip cost big bucks! |
