Campionato Italiano Superturismo
The entry list is growing, and in Magny Cours also Valle Makela will be eligible to score championship points...and from Mugello (3rd July) there would be also Olli Haapalainen, probably with a Toledo Cupra...those drivers were encouraged by Audi Sport Italia. So up to now there are 11 drivers in the championship...

Italian Superturismo Championship has drawn the attention of some foreign drivers, like Valle Makela and Olli Haapalainen, thanks to the concomitance with the World Championship.
The Finnish were supported by Emilio Radaelli and Roberta Gremignani of Audi Sport Italia, who are linked with Risto Buri not only as partner of VW in motorsport, but also for past sporting cooperation. Makela will be at Magny Cours with the Toledo he drove in Monza (in that occasion only for the World Championship’s class). Valle is 19 years old and obtained an encouraging 13th place in his second race with a touring car in Monza (If he was already entered in the Italian Championship, he would have scored a 3rd place). Haapalainen is a specialist of touring car. The 35 years old driver from Helsinki will debut in the Mugello race (3rd July), probably with a Toledo Cupra; his palmares consists in 5 national titles, the last one obtained in 2004 with an Audi A4. |

Olli told that he'll use the same (or same kind of) Audi A4 in Italy that he drove in Finland. Engine will be new development version.

So let me get this right. The Italian Superturismo championship runs within the WTCC? I did wonder why Zanardi was on the Monza podium.

It will run within the WTCC only at Imola (and it run in Monza and Magny Cours). Zanardi won both race in Monza and the first in Magny Cours, and this is the reason for the podium; the second race in Magny Cours went to Cirò. Zanardi is also leading the series with 33 points, second is Tavano with 25 points and third Cirò with 18 points.
