Purton wins 2 from 2

In what was a very exciting spectacle for local supporters, Tasmanias' Kevin Purton won his second consecutive V8 Super Sedan National Title on Saturday night at Toowoomba's Charlton Speedway.

After rain washed out the Friday night schedule, the Charlton Speedway club forewent income by holding both the Friday and Saturday night programmes on the one night (Saturday). The night was a spectace to behold, 30+ cubic metres having been removed from the track surface during preparation due to the previous night's rain.

The heat races provided plenty of action, including two time national champion Mick Nicola coming into contact with the wall at turn one, and multiple championship winner Ron Pyne breaking a tailshaft which put him out of contention.

The feature race set something of a record for Super Sedan racing, with 33 laps being run consecutively without a stoppage. Tasmanian Kevin Purton had a firm grip on the title from lap 1, only surrendering the lead for 1 lap to long-time charger John Leslight. Although he was certainly the crowd favourite, Leslight was relegated to position 2 for the only restart in the race, and Purton sailed on to a well deserved victory.

Congratulations must be extended to the Charlton Raceway for their efforts in organising the 2005/2006 National Super Sedan Title, despite adverse conditions. Also Congratulations to all drivers who attended, both local and interstate.
