This has come up in other threads. A forum search should highlight such occurances.
Anway, it appears that his engine was indeed having problems. |

Perhaps they just turned the revs down to protect it, securing points in Bahrain, and preserving it for Malaysia.

Mclaren did indeed turn down the revs. They were concerned about the engine expiring without claiming any points from JPM. They will see how practice goes (malaysia) and if the problem is still about change the engine.
JPM was apparently fuming at not being allowed full power. Understandable I guess. |

Why some engines might go 'pop'.http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=112098
P.S. This obviously does not apply to V10s. |

For once I agree with Rennen - the rules ae there to challenge the teams into making better cars. Long-life technology is more likely to trickle into road cars than high-speed technology. Also, I hope some of those who criticised Montoya's performance will have the guts to apologise.

When did you realise about the problems? JPM:The problems started with the engine on Friday, since then I had not many options for the race, that is the engine we got for the next race so the hopes are not very high. Nevertheless you had a good start? JPM:Yes but with the engine problems there was not much I could do. After the first pit stop you were doing well, so we had some hopes. JPM:Yes, that was because I was using high revs for the last 4 laps before the pit stop, but 95% of the race time the engine was not using the high revs setup, so not much to do. Looking to the telemetry, any indications about the problem? No, they (Mclaren engineers) do not find the problem and that is what we have (for next race) Regarding the tyres, the team (Mclaren) says that the soft compound you used could’ve been not the best option, did you have any problems? The tyres worked very well, a little bit of grainy, it could cost us some time from the 5- to the 10 laps, same for the other 2 sets of tyres, but theoretically speaking soft tyres are better for this problem. The car behaved pretty well regarding tyres. |
