Is Wilbur Something Special??
Is Will Davison something special ? Its been awhile since Steve Johnson has been betten by a Team Mate. I think it will be a good year this year with Whincup and Davison shareing a house together on the Gold Coast and Courtney all pretty good mates. Go the YOUNG GUNS

When he's in the mood he can be. Unfortunately, that's what has held him back a lot to date. In order to be "something special" you've got to be able to turn it on rain, hail or shine.

Jnr got beaten by his team mate in 2 of 3 races at the last round of the championship last year. It may have been 3 if his teammate didn't get turned around.

The team could always tune the speed out of the #18 car

Will has shown that the DJR chassis's aren't that bad. He has done things in the last 2 weekend's that a DJR car hasn't done for years, been competitive. Awesome job Will!!!! |

If I spin the clock back to this race meeting a year ago, Mr Davison was indeed very very quick at the AGP meeting aboard the unfancied Team Dynamik car...
But did not show that pace in the DJR Falcons come enduro time, at Sandown & Bathurst One swallow does not make a summer.... NZ will be the killer showpiece |

No doubt GTR, when they go to Enzed things will be much tougher than the GP this weekend, but still, considering he is so inexperienced compared to the majority of the field & driving a chassis for a team that hasn't had much success of late, what he has done this weekend shows that maybe DJR did make the right decision for the future by hiring Will Davison.
You also have to consider, that while Davo wasn't that quick at Sandown & Bathurst last year & in fact I think he was the slowest of the 4 enduro drivers, coming from an Open Wheeler back ground I'm sure he would have prefeered the set-up of the #17 Ford to be a little different to Jnr's last year so I will give him the benefit of doubt concerning last year. Still, very promising for DJR!! |

So on that basis, will Junior have to be in a different car to Wilbur, if the chassis likings are so fundamentally different?
We might see the Davison-squared car and Junior with Grant Denyer |

Will's very good. He'll do some good things this year.
The future of the sport is in very good hands with the likes of Will, Rick Kelly, Jamie Whincup and James Courtney. |

Will was actually the fastest of all four Westpoint drivers at Sandown if you check the racetimes, and besides his accident at Bathurst he did a solid job there with limited laps and no new tyres. I think he was maybe 6th in the co-driver session with a low 2.09 which is far from un-competitive. There is no doubt he will continue shining throughout the year!

And at what point will DJR do what GTRMagic suggests, and start tuning the speed from the car? What will happen to the team if Junior starts to get blown off?

I guess FPR overdid their de-tuning coz Glenn was a couple of seconds off the Lowndes pace...
Get over it, Seto is finished. |

Canto is overdriving the GRM chassis.. his accidents have come from having to push the car far closer to the limit than some others.. and running out of ability.
Case in point.. R2 Adelaide.. the faster car was coming thru, easily faster, and driving at 9.8/10ths, the driver failed to yield, and put his car in a position of danger, where he was bumped while on maximum cornering speed, and the world wonders why he fell off the road. A pro knows when to yield.. on this occassion, the driver didnt know.. |

I think its a valid comment. If Ford is opening its chequebook, a good place to spend its money is to repair the equipment lost in the first round by a team in the series.
A $500k car write off (not really $500k as the engine/gearbox and some other stuff got salvaged) is not something a fragile race team's budget can usually sustain. Sure there is another car, but what happens if other damage happens, and they need a spare, and dont have one. Missing rounds sounds ordinary to me, and a breach of contract with the primary & secondary sponsors. Sorry to be a nuisance for stating the bleeding obvious.
