I would presume not. Still cameras are allowed, but I don't think video cameras are.

Each place has different rules - for example, the MSV ones, if you read them properly, are a little funny. Although still clear, I know many who disagree. It may be worth checking with Silverstone / the organising body or checking the small print.

The guy I went to Silverstone with last year took a camcorder....and he was searched at the gate as well, due to the London bombings....
It struck me as odd, as I always assumed you couldn't record your own stuff, but there you go. Maybe it is allowed? |

I think you can make a recording, so long as it isn't used for public display or for profit. I saw many people with camcorders at Silverstone last year.

Technically it's not allowed but you'll only get a tap on your shoulder if you start pulling out profesional cameras and sound recording equipment. They're not overly concerned with people just recording for a bit of fun.

I had no problems at the melbourne GP , but maybe its different at Silvetsone , but surely pure amatuer footage is fine compared to taking a full production unit

Common sense prevail's here which is the best way to handle this situation! It makes sense for camcorders and recording not been allowed in the case where an incident can occur somewhere on track, been missed by the TV companies (paying huge prices to record and transmit the event), and been distributed for profits.. This is the business reason for it been banned! However, stance taken by most courses is good. The common sense course that is..! |

Commercial rights (Profits...money) drive these "rules"
Nobody will squeal unless you try to sell your footage.... |

i would say not, u usual get serched for carring anything of that large nature..
Plus you wouldn't capture all that much on a video camera as the speed of the car is far faster than a digital camera speed... Your best bet is to either take a digital camera or if u have a mobile phone that has a video capture on it.... |

A mobile phone would not be good enough for a moving car...even with zoom my guess is the pic of the car wouldn't be large enough.

I got a great pic of Nick heidfeld at the exit of Abbey on my mobile a couple of years back.
But it was a fluke......camera phones are fundamentally useless..... |

put i did this with my little £300 sony camcorder at a testing session, quality was okay but keeping up with the cars at speed is tricky! http://www.formulajuan.net/images/JPM.mpg |

Update: Solution was to empty the folder of all files except this one, and then delete the whole folder. Last edited by Flat12-Aircool; 18 Apr 2006 at 22:22. |

Hmm, not sure whats happened there. I can't explain why you can't delete it, but it should play fine. Maybe you don't have up-to-date codecs for playing back mpg's. It was originally an AVI (from my camcorder) I used winavi to convert it. I've just re-downloaded it and deleted it fine. |
