Who will Have their "Bubble" Burst at Indy?
With 34 drivers confirmed, someone will be on the outside looking in at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Who do you think it will be? |

My guess would be Gregoire, but there are a few drivers who look unlikely to be close to the pace.

I think that there could be a number of candidates....
I'm not sure if I could pick one, so I wanted everyone else's thoughts... |

Marty Roth or P.J. Jones
Roth's crew seems to have no clue what's wrong with the car and I have a feeling that Jones will be driving the #98 chassis that was so dreadfully slow last year. |

Be funny if it was Danica, not that I expect it or want it to be.
I'll go with Roth |

How does Bump Day work exactly? Does everyone just pretty much qualify again and whoever is slowest gets bumped? (though qualifying order is kept the same)

no, anybody who is unqualified goes out and tries to bump out the slowest car in the field after the field is full (33 cars). If his 4 lap average is faster than the slowest car's, that car is removed and the new qualifier is added to the field.

Who at the moment is yet to qualify? I know Medeiros hasn't qualified yet & I don't think that Roth has yet either. Any more news on the reports that AJ Foyt IV was seen yesterday in the paddock in racing overalls? Will Foyt add another car at this late stage? If so PJ Jones looks almost certain to be bumped.

Medeiros and Roth have yet to set a time. They are both on track right now (no idea if it's bump day or just a practice), so I guess they both intend to have a go.
Foyt had a last minute attempt with Giaffonie last year, so I wouldn't be suprised if he did have a go at entering another car. |

Foyt was on tv earlier saying he was more interested in getting the #14 & #41 right than trying to get the third car into the field. But then again, Jimmy Kite was spotted loitering around the unqualified #48 car and this is AJ Foyt, at Indy...
So far neither Medeiros or Roth have been sufficiently quick to seriously bother PJ Jones either, but the 33rd spot is still open. ...and as I type Foyt's #48 makes an appearance in pit lane, driver unknown... Last edited by Antrodemus; 21 May 2006 at 20:49. |

As we now know, Foyt's driver was Ryan Briscoe. He was set to make a run but couldn't make it cause of the caution period, as a result of Roth's accident.

I don't think he would've had enough time anyway. He really had to be in the car and on the track by 5 to have a real shot.

rustyfan nailed it!
I find it so funny that Rustyfan had Roth picked back on the 18th!
I haven't paid close attention to this series since, oh I dunno, 1996, and I didn't even know who this Roth ****** was until he smacked the wall... |

If Roth had been able to maintain his 219mph+ pace he showed flashes of on Saturday he would have safely made the field for his third Indy 500. As it turns out he ended up bumping himself - and at the same time safeguarding Medeiros from being bumped by Briscoe - when he stuffed it into the wall.

So for the fourth time since The Split - and unlike any other time since 1946 - there is no actual bumping.
Thanks, Tony. Well done on safeguarding the 500. |

Yea, Ryan was a bit unlucky, although I'm a bit surprised he considerd entering the 500.
