GFS Marketplace 400.
GFS Marketplace 400.
Sunday August 20 2006. 2:00 e.t. Michigan International Speedway. Brooklyn, MI. Jeremy Mayfield is the defending champion of Michigan International Speedway's second NASCAR Nextel Cup event, but it's Evernham Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne who may be looking forward to this race. Kahne has a tour-leading four wins this season, the last coming at Michigan in June, and he would be a smart NASCAR bet here. A victory would make Kahne, likely one of the sportsbook favorites, the first driver to sweep a season's events at Michigan since Bobby Labonte in 1995, and make Ray Evernham just the third owner in track history to win at least three straight races at MIS and the first since Bill Elliott won four straight in 1985-1986 for owner Harry Melling. Gfs Marketplace 400 breakdown (updated thru August 3)
·Past winners: 2005 Jeremy Mayfield, 2004 Greg Biffle, 2003 Ryan Newman Michigan International Speedway breakdown ( updated thru August 3) ·A track rich in racing tradition. ·Banking/ turns: 18. ·Distance: 2.0 miles. ·Shape: tri- oval. |

Mayfield is out of the #19. Replaced by Elliot Sadler.
It has stated to get a little nasty between Evernham and Mayfield with Jeremy acussing Evernham of spending too much time with Erin Crocker Hopefully the Biff can bounce back. He needs all good finishes to make the Chase. |

The Busch race was fun! Dale Jr. won it after a bit of a skirmish with Carl Edwards on the green/white chequer restart. Carl got loose and Dale drobve into the back of him and he spun across the infield.
So the race finished under yellow sadly, but Carl still found time to exit the pits and drive into the side of Dale, so obviously wasn't too happy. And yet, in the post race interview, he seemed as if he had won the lottery. Still, fun race and I'm all ready for the 400!!! |

Edwards is not having a good year and it is really starting to get to him. No sympathy from me, he spun out enough cars last year that he shouldn't be complaining. Good to see Jr get the win.

Dale is looking good for the double thus far. He is running the high groove very effectively and was much faster up until a yellow.
Having said that he got loose later on and lost about five places, but he should be strong come the end. Gordon looking good also. |

Kenseth wins from Gordon.....Dale couldn't pull off the sweep, came home 6th. Very useful result in terms of the Chase though.

Good comeback by Johnson. Early on he was 2 laps down after hitting the wall.
Busch brothers had a bad day. At this point it looks like Kahne is the only driver with a realistic chance of overtaking one of the current top 10. J. Gordon improved his standings in the chase.....and WOW, look what happened to Burton. He dropped all the way back to 9th. The next 3 races should really be exciting. And, look where they are racing next, Bristol. It will be a real bang fest. |

Barring a chain of freak events, the drivers 12th or lower in the standings have no shot at making the Chase. Kurt Busch looked to be making a serious comeback but the last two weeks eliminated him. This is a shame. In 2004 and 2005 we had a great "Race to the Chase", involving 15 drivers in 2004 and 16 in 2005. Still, things are much more interesting than they would be without the Chase.

The focus is now on Earnhardt as Kahne still is within a fighting chance.
Sad for dale, he couldn't quite pull it off at the end of the race And it might have been interesting, but cliche'd if Truex's tyre had of disintigrated. If, the biggest word in the english language eh? Pitty about Harvick though, he had the beans in the start of it. |

Too bad there wasn't 4 or 5 laps left. Then we would have seen some "interesting" racing. Jeff would have taken Matt.
Can't wait for Bristol. Anything can happen and usually does. Everyone except Johnson and Kenseth are still fighting to make the chase. One DNF like what Burton had can put any of them at risk of not making it. |

Yeh I was amazed how far Burton dropped with that DNF, pity as it was no fault of his own.
Carl was looking good, but dropped back in the last 15 or so laps he would have been only 150 or something? out of the top 10 if he got 2nd. Not a bad race, I was expecting more like Chicagoland ie:boring, but it was quite good, overtaking was plentiful. |

I finally got to watch the GFS250 finale, and boy, what a finish.
Edwards was strange with his post race interview, happy, yet angry. And at least Earnhardt admitted that his tactics weren't exactly above board... |

Yeh, by the end of the interveiw he sorta admitted it wasn't totally Dale's fault (see my sig, it was quite funny). I can imagine he would have used other words had he not been warned after the incidents with Tony Stewart.

Carl has been fined $20,000 and put on probation for the incidents, it has emerged today.
Bet he's pleased with that! |
