I thought you said that your favourite was Zandvoort.
I like Knockhill as well. Pity I didn't get going today.

You missed a great days action...I haven't seen how it came across on TV yet, but the major supports were excellent as was the main BTCC event.
Knockhill proved yet again that it provides top class racing and entertainment.

I'm going out on a limb and say Daytona! 2.5 miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic. 30+ degree turns. An infield lake. A banked tri-oval. I think ovals are underappreciated here.

That's gravel!
But it doesn nothing to slow a car down when it spears off like that.

There were also isolated incidents of drivers being hit around the head by the fence posts.
A gravel trap is the best all-round method of slowing cars before the first line of protection. Asphalt relies largely on an input from the driver, especially if the car is not spinning, i.e. it's not entirely passive. And if the car has no wheels, it's even worse because carbon fibre on asphalt won't slow you much (certainly much, much less than a gravel bed would in the same situation).

There's been quite a few incidents over the years involving catch fencing.
