I own (BASKET CASE) chassis 702/5 ex Xavier Perrot car.Car is complete with all corners, wheels, saddle tanks, bodywork and correct ft2oo box.We have most of it's history in 1970 (it won at nurbergring)but know nothing about it's subsequent history!!.does anyone else?. Car believed to have been fitted with sports bodywork and raced in the USA.as such.

Rob
March 702s racing in the US seem to be rare, and most of the cars seem to be recorded in Europe until the late 1970s at least - either hillclimbing and sprinting or buried in a garage [in the case of the ex BMW car]. The only references I can find are in 1972 when Tim and Frank Simpson race a 702 at Road America and Watkins Glen in FB and then in 1973 when Pistritto races one at Watkins Glen. [The latter car was entered by RaceShop - Joe Grimaldi and Doug Shierson's operation, and was red and white] In reading the ads of a wide range of American mags between 1973 and 1987 I've never come across an ad for a 702 nor anything described as a March that might be suspected of having a 702 underneath it. I'd suspect that if your car has American history it might well have been the Simpson/Pistritto car, but at yet we have little evidence. Chris |

According to March they only made 6 702's.
I've found the result's of the BARC 200 at Thruxton and this show's five 702's entered, but can't find chassis numbers but it's possible one of these car's is yours. http://www.formula2.net/F270_1.htm Hope this help's. I'll keep looking and let you know if i find more. Last edited by rescue dude; 31 Jan 2006 at 10:48. Reason: Getting my facts right |

Try asking these guys. They're collecting information on March cars so they may be able to help.

If it raced in the US with sports car bodywork, it probably ran as a BSR ('B' sports racing - up to 2-litre) in SCCA racing from 1978 onwards. As such, it would probably have had some odd name ('Predator', 'Gypsy', 'Mandrake' or some such guff) or been named after whoever screwed the bodywork onto it ('Bloggs Special', 'Peterson Sports' etc) so your chances of finding it referred to as a 702 in contemporary reports are slim.
I have nothing on a March 702 racing in the 2-litre Can-Am class, where single-seat BSRs would have been eligible. Allen |

There were two March 702s in HSCC Pre-70 racing in 1984, Ian Giles in one and Martin Steele in the ex-Howden Ganley/David Morgan prototype.
