3db more is supposed to mean twice as loud.

100 dB is said to be the loudness of a jackhammer (road drill) 2m from you in a disco!
110 dB is likened to a chainsaw at 1m 120 dB at 1m causes immediate perforation of ear drum 140 dB for an F1 car at 1m The R8 was fairly quiet anyway, being a turbo. I've forgotten what the new sound limit is at the LM 24. Think it might be 120. It's mentioned somewhere recently on another thread. I gather only the Astons went over that when it was measured at this year's race. |

Thanks
and just think, with all the new regulations in F1 for the next 5 years, I would not be supprised that we see the same in other sports car races too. Sprots car racing may as excting as watching Paint dry, grass grow or submarine racing. |

Well, the R10 is at about 90-95 db. I don't know the definent figure for the R8, but it was probably about 105 db, plus or minus 2-3 db. You for sure can't hear it clearly when it's near other cars. For compairison, the Panoz LMP1 was probably around 110 db, and the DBR9's are probably about 115 db. I wonder how loud the Porsche RS Spyders are-they sound like F1 cars!
