Best Privateer Prototype
Many of you guys do not think that Dyson moving to a P2 RS Spyder next year is a good thing. Classes aside, which do you guys think is the best privateer package to go after overall wins right now. Here's what I think
1. Porsche RS Spyder (P2)(for the ALMS) 1. Pescarolo Judd (P1)(for LMES + Lemans) 3. Courage LC70 Judd (P1) 4. Lola B05/40 AER (P2) 5. Lola B06/10 AER or Judd (P1) There are several new chasis comming out next year, but are unproven at the moment. Dyson put themselves in the best car for the ALMS for going after overall victories. |

I would think the Audi R10 had too much factory support to be considered a privateer. I would think the Champion R8 would be a better consideration of being a privateer. But that's SSSOOO 2005.

Why not? They're both better than 4 out of the 5 cars( with the Pesca being the obviouls exeception), and in some cases( Lola B06/10 AER, Courage LC70) by a long way. The Audi R8 is better than those car at least in reliabilty, and if they were allowed to run under ALMS '06 specs( post '03 or mayby slighty larger air restrictor, and with 35 kgs of ballast), the R8 would easily be as fast as the Pescarolo C60, and with it being as fast as the LC70 dispite the near 7 year gap in design( the orginal Courage C60 was designed in 1999, just like the R8), that's saying something when something that old isn't just able to win on reliability alone, but also speed.

The Audi R8 and the Pescarolo are probably the best privateer cars currently. Both are very fast for cars designed in 1999, and are very reliable, and are very easy to work on. That's why there never was privateer Bentleys-being built the traditional British way, the car used the lightest, smallest fasteners possible for that part, where as the R8 and Pesca use the same size fasteners where possible, for example.
In other words, the Speed 8s were a little to complex and expensive to be run successfuly by a privateer. And Bentley didn't want to keep a parts stock pile. They did what the wanted( win LM) and were gone. With that out in the open, here's my votes: 1 Pescarolo C60 Judd 5.0 or 5.5 V10 2 Audi R8 (ALMS only) 3 Creation/Zytec LMP1 4 Courage LC70 5 Lola B06/10 PS: the R8 would've scored higher, but the chances that it will see a race track in competitive anger in '07 in the ALMS is slim to none at best. i would go on saying these are the best privateer prototypes in LMP1 and LMP2.
LMP1 pescarolo C60 courage LC70 zytek 06S creation CA06H dome HS101 lola B06/10 lavaggi LS1 lister storm hybrid protran reynard hybrid LMP2 porsche RS spyder lola B05/40 radical SR9 courage C65 luchinni XV if i was running a privateer team in the LMS i would go for the pescarolo or a courage LC70 mugen, the only thing been the LC70 mugen, although being massively quick it is unreliable, if it were reliable it certainly could have won the LMP1 title last year in the LMS. |
