Toyota and BAR launch

Countdown begins for the first 2002 car to be revealed by new boys TOYOTA.

Is it going to be a beauty in design? How about in livery? Would BAR be a better looker than Toyota, or not?

I expect the Toyota to be somewhat different than its current test car, since Brunner started from scratch with it.
I would think it will remain red, but you never know, Panasonic had a multi-coloured scheme on Matsushista's CART car.

The BAR had better be different! They've got to go in a different direction, for sure. Since the motor is supposed to be all new, I'm sure they've had to design the chassis around it. I'd like to see a more creative paint scheme on it as well.

& Mr McNish better beat Salo next season.

Salo will never be forgiven for stealing Luca's race seat at Ferrari in 1999 when Schumi broke his leg.

Salo never stole the seat, it's not as if he phoned up and asked for it (the seat). Ferarri considered Badoer, decided not to bother, and phoned Mika to ask him to drive for them. What Ferarri think of Badoer as a driver has been illustrated by the fact that they've just signed Dustbin Barichello's mate Luciano "mind that wall / the back of that Ferarri / the end of the Pit Lane / Marc Hynes' car " Burti as a test driver.

All IMHO as ever...

Back on topic, I hope McNish does well and proves he deserves the seat. But I think Salo will be better

Those colors remind me of the McLaren Honda Senna and Prost Drove.

The Toyota looks nice for sure. I think they have a good team for starters but Im not really convinced Brunner has what it takes to design a top car in this day and age - I coud be wrong so lets see how the Toyota goes.

Their livery is certainly better than that of BAR,Arrows and Prost for sure.

Brunner IS pretty good. Sure, he might not be as good as Rory Bryne and Adrian Newey, but he would be some where in the 2nd tier, for he can come up with pretty neat designs while working in a very straightforward and decisive manner. I think his input into this year's Minardi especially had boosted his name quite a bit too.

With regards to this body design, i don't think it would set the grid alight. I doubt it would have the aero-dynamic or handling advantage over Ferrari and Williams. But more importantly, it should also be free of any major problems, and i reckon Brunner's car should beat the Jaguars and the BAR in terms of chassis behavoir. As Brunner said, a conservative design.

However, the biggest unknown is the engine. We have seen Honda impressing with 2000 engine, and fall off pace this year. We have seen new comer BMW come up with a monster in it's 2nd full year. So would Toyota impress or not? Their LeMans car was extremely quick and unreliable..would Toyota take a different approach this time around?

Guess we'd have to wait till Albert Park to find out!

In the sense that the Toyota's white with areas of red, then I suppose it does look like a 1980s McLaren, but I'd point out that Andrea de Cesaris, John Watson, Niki Lauda, Keke Rosberg, Stefan Johansson, Gerhard Berger, Mika Hakkinen, Michael Andretti, Mark Blundell, Nigel Mansell, Jan Magnussen and David Coulthard all raced them too. Not just Prost and Senna...

I think the livery is rubbish. They could have achieved better by throwing a can of red paint at it.

BAR's looks exactly the same as this year (livery and car). I hope mechanically it's different, 'cos aerodynamically, it looks identical.
