Oh, if I'd brought the list with me I could have put it on. In the meantime, here's 1976 and 1977:
1976 (Championship for Makes - ie. silhouettes!) =1st. Jacky Ickx 34pts (3 wins - Mugello, Vallelunga, Dijon) =1st. Jochen Mass 34pts (as above) 3. Dieter Quester 23pts (2 wins - Nurburgring, Osterreichring) 1976 (Championship for Sports Cars) 1. Jochen Mass 50pts (5 wins - Monza, Imola, Enna, Dijon, Salzburgring) 2. Jackie Ickx 40pts (4 wins - Monza, Imola, Mosport, Dijon) 3. Reinhold Jost 27pts (1 win - Nurburgring) Note: At the Nurburgring and Mosport, cars that were not eligible for points finished in the top 6. for these tables, I have excluded them and given the first eligible cars the points. eg. Oliver and Follmer (in Can-Am cars) finished 1-2 at Mosport, but I have given the 10 points to Ickx (3rd) in the Porsche 936. This does not affect the finishing positions shown above. 1977 (Championship for Makes) 1. Bob Wollek 40pts (2 wins - Mosport, Hockenheim) =2. Jacky Ickx 30pts (3 wins - Silverstone, W. Glen, Brands) =2. Jochen Mass 30pts (as above) 4. Rolf Stommelen 24pts (2 wins - Mugello, Nurburgring) 1977 (Championship for Sports Cars) 1. Arturo Merzario 52pts (4 wins - Dijon, Enna, Estoril, Paul Ricard) 2. Vittorio Brambilla 46pts (4 wins - Monza, Vallelunga, Imola, Salzburgring) 3. Giorgio Francia 24pts |

Thanks Patrese256, I wonder what system they used!?
OK, at last - I've got the 1965 results with me. The delay was caused by the number of top 6 finishers, in various rounds, that were ineligible for points. These included two winners; the Hall/Sharp Chaparral at Sebring, and the Hulme Brabham BT8 at the TT. For the below list, these have been left out, so that 10 points is awarded to the McLaren/Miles GT40 at Sebring and Sir John Whitmore's Cobra at the TT (who actually finished fourth!). I have only the top 6 FINISHERS at the moment, so not all points-SCORERS have been recorded (yet!!), but here are the results so far: 1. Jean Guichet 26pts (2 wins - Monza, Reims). 2. Ken Miles 24pts (2 wins - Daytona, Sebring). =3. Mike Parkes 22pts (1 win - Monza). =3. John Surtees 22pts (1 win - Nurburgring). So there it is, all the seasons of the World Sportscar championship (and other names that it ran under!) before there was a drivers title. |

Thanks paulzinho, it did take a while, but I like list-making (sad I know) and it was a nice break from uni work!

Thanks. I meant the system that I developed for "Time and Two Seats" It was published in 1999 and has everyone covered through 1998.

Janos, your post is a timely reminder that I have been intending to acquire a copy of your 'bible', so I have just ordered a copy. However, until received it I will not know how close, or otherwise, KRT917's findings are to yours, or how similar or dissimilar the method of calculating it!
Anyone wishing to get hold of 'Time and Two Seats' needs to act quickly, I guess. It's been out of print a long time and is already commanding a 'collector's' value. |

Thanks. Don't know where the rumors keep popping up that it's out of print. There are still a few dozen copies floating about between my stock and various dealers. You can contact me privately for details about acquiring from me--though it's not necessarily cheaper or quicker than through dealers.
As to the differences, haven't really read through all the details above. I applied a "Can-Am" system of 20-15-12-10 etc. for the top 10 finishers for each race, with certain technicalities as spelled out in Chapter VI. Enjoy, Janos |
