Have you talked about helping them PREPARE for a race?? Preperation for each race takes a while. SO prior to each reace teams need lots of help too. I dont know about other drivers / teams but it takes me 12 hours to prepare and go over my car with a fine tooth combe before each race weekend. That is when teams need the real help. Going to the races to help is the reward for helping in the shop back home. Last edited by AU N EGL; 21 Apr 2007 at 11:44. |

Hi
I was wondering if anybody know's of any good motorsport books which tells you about the setup of car's. I have seen this one: Race Car Engineering and Mechanics by Van Valkenburgh, Paul Does anybody have this and if yes is it any good. Also i was wondering of there is any GT mechanics on here. If so how did you get to do that as i am intrested in GT. James |

My advice would be to do a season with the team who are willing to help you this year. Learn as much as you can and for next year when you're more mobile and skilled approach some of the GT teams. I recall that you're not very old so take your time and learn as much as you can now - this will give you a better skill base for when you're older.

James
I just got back from two days ( monday and tuesday ) of teaching young and some Gand Am cup drivers at VIR. My two young helpers spent 2 1/2 hours unloading the car, washing the car, putting it up on jack stands and taking off the wheels, plus unloading the trailer. So being a race Mechanic is much more then AT THE TRACK. Being a Mechanic at the track is either easy ( if you have great prep) or crunch time because something broke and needs to be fixed ASAP if not sooner. Good Luck with your schooling. Tom |

Hi
Just got back form my second meeting at castle combe, it was very very wet. the first thing I learnt was to take more clothes and a towl, but it was a very good meeting espically being first out so had to be there very early and it was very quiet at that time. Overall it was a good day but better if it was not raining. Got my next meeting at the end of this month at castle combe james |
