Hmm, well that was more obvious if I would have thought a bit longer. Interesting.

Mike I left that to you to spill actually (if the news on your site gets updated!). Anyway yes whilst I can't really spill all my info heres the facts
Zytek - Quoted in Racecar Engineering in 2006 saying they were working on a hybrid drive for 2007 Le Mans. Honda - stated a long long time ago that they were going to LMP1. Honda's motorsport boss was at Le Mans, Honda's engine chief was at Le Mans in Zytek clothing... so yes I'd be fairly confident that a Honda/Acura Hybrid will be on the LMP1 grid next year or 2009. Also a team (who annoyingly I can't reveal) told me that they were negtiating in the far east for a deal to run a manufacturer LMP1 at Le Mans in 2009 |

So I wonder if an Acura (Zytek) hybrid would mean the end of customer Zytek chassis.
Would it be in the best interest of Zytek to focus all resources on an Acura project and, longer term, benefit from Acura customer sales? Edit:- are Acura/Zytek currently in talks with the ACO about regs? |

I thought that the rumors of Hyundai going racing was in F1 in 2010 or 2012? Maybe they're taking the Toyota/BMW route and running in sportscars first.

I'm not gonna speculate on manufacturer *cough* Lexus *cough* |

No idea about Honda.
Toyota lead for most of the race but threw it all away pretty close to the end... Nissan didn't set the world on fire, but I think they finished. Maybe 5th or 7th. Just from the top of my head, I may be horribly wrong... Edit: Turns out I am horribly wrong... Last edited by Speed-King; 8 Jul 2007 at 16:16. |

Nissan and toyota have both had pole, in 89 and 98/99
errr Blundell took pole for Nissan, and brundle did it once i think for toyota. Toyota best second, 99? Honda haven't done too well, a couple of forays with a NSX in the 90s? Nissan i don' think have finished on the podium. Best Jap is Mazda, '91 win. |

Nissan was on the podium in 1998. The cars came 3rd, 5th, 6th and 10th.

All this talk got me thinking about what Honda/Acura are doing in their production cars. Hybrids. They produce a couple of different models, and would make sense for them to market them a a winner, by making their race cars carry the same technology.
Or maybe they are planning a GT winning Honda Insight?!?!?!!? |

wasn't one of the explicit points about the honda program that it would have a customer compenent? i don't know if it's just engines or would include complete cars down the line, but given the way they handled their open-wheel programs in north america, i can't see them doing anything other than offering cars for sale to teams, as well as heav support for the elect few...

Purely speculative but I think there could be a big tussle between Honda and Toyota to be the first to win Le Mans with a Hybrid. Maybe even Audi will follow that route as well!
