Winner FFF in 1973?

Can anybody tell me who won the Formula Ford Festival in 1973? Was it Derek Lawrence or Donald Macleod? In the Autosport of november 1973 is reported that Lawrence won, but in more recent statistics Macleod is the winner? Was Lawrence disqualified and why?

Thanx
HansMarco

Hi HansMarco

It was Donald Macleod - in a Van Diemen FA73 (a fab racing car - so much nicer than a Hawke DL11 or a Lotus 69 .....but I am heavily biased !!)

It appears that the original winner in a Dulon MP15 was found to have a dodgy engine. This link tells you quite a bit:

A few 1973 cars are still out and about see this link

Not good from behind

Seeing that FA73 has hijacked this thread and sent out an underhand dig I couldn't resist but bite on the hook !

I have to agree that the rear of a DL11 isn't quite Kylie in hot pants especially if that is the view one has had to get used to! I wouldn't like to comment on the beauty of the rear of an FA73 . . . it's been such a long time since I've seen it!

All in jest of course !-)

I think you will both find that the rear of the lotus 69 is better than a Hawke or a V D remember .Dave Lowe .

Dave, how long have you been racing Lotus cars in FFord?

Is this you in the mid 80's?

It does look like Dave...

Dave had his Lotus 61 back out late last year after the 69 wrecked its engine and gearbox at Dijon. Even though the car had been stored for several years He still won Class B in it at the Castle Coombe race.

That sure looks like me with the mirrors out on stalks like that .My brother and i started in 1972 when he bought the Autosport prize car (LOTUS 61) from the competition winner Rod Stevens . He raced clubmans but did a season in his prize before putting it up for sale.(£700 including trailler) Don't remember that accident but 36 yrs is along time !Thanks for the comp Andrew Dave Lowe

It was a Formula E race in the mid 80's. I'm the driver of car 59. On the first lap we all arrived at the chicane for the GP extension, somebody clobbered you and I took to the grass in avoidance!

You always seemed to get that 61 high up the grid

Unfortunately not. Still have the car so if I can find some time and more importantly money, I may come out and play again. Not in the near future though
