Wex should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
RC news from Finland

Finnish rallycross culminates in the final of Hyvinkää 13.9, also Matti Alamäki and Juha Kankkunen along in the competition!

In Div.1 Marko Jokinen has secured his championship with his Peugeot, but other medals are distributed and when going crosswise quite well, may strongest attached to silver Jani Paasonen, fall completely off the medals and Martti Simonen and Silvo Viitanen speed past. Or, if someone blunders can even Janne Kanerva rice to silver.

In supernationals things are even tighter. J-P Kokko leads and Timo Pellinen is in second place and these two have the strongest grip from the brightest medals, but Mika Vaaranmaa, Janne Sinkkonen, Juha Sillanpää and J-P Mattila still have the chance to become the champion.

In ”Autokrossi” the top three is within 10 points, in order Ari Perkiömäki, Janne Taskila and Jari Järvenpää. Behind these guys is Vw beetle driver Toni Vainikka just few points behind, so anything can happen in this class also.

When Marko Jokinen secured his championship he decided to rent his own 207 to Juha Kankkunen in the last race. He is the team chief for Matti Alamäki and Juha Kankkunen and this team has 5 Finnish and 5 European championships in rallycross plus 4 World Rally Championships, so if the team does not succeed, it´s not the result of lack an experience. Hope that Juha likes the event and maybe next summer he gets his own car and drives the whole series.

I´ll write more news when Juha had tested the car, and after the race weekend.

Welcome Wex to the forum!
Would liked to have seen Matti in the 207 in this event, the right car i think he would be still a force to contend with although Juha is a big catch also.Maybe Matti can use the car at a later date would love to see him back in Europe!

Kiiti Wex! The "Kankku" news was actually ment not to be released that early but after rallicrossi.net (http://www.rallicrossi.net/rallicros...ticle&sid=1685) published it already today I just put a story on ERC24 also. Apropos: I saw "Kankku" for the first time in February 1983 competing with a German registered Opel Manta in the 'Boucles de Spa' rally in Belgium and wrote in the story for my mag that "the World should really watch out for this new Finnish bloke"…

This weekend most RC eyes will be pointed at Poland and Grönholm’s 3rd race at ERC. But I think there will be some very interesting RC in Finland this weekend. Matti Alamäki will hopefully have sorted out the problems he had with the 206 Jokinen car. Harri Rovanpäre will maybe drive the Jokinen 207 Peugeot. And finally! Jani Paasonen will have a competitive car. He will rent the Fiesta of Peter Hedström.

That's a good lineup right there With big names like this competing in rallycross surely the sport will get more coverage and more interest?

It's brilliant how they build up a championship from nearly scratch in a few years. Start off with just 1 class, the uber-popular supernationals: fast, in large quantity available cars and parts, reliable machinery, spectacular racing and tech rules that are fix for years now. Entry field of 26 cars in 3 years time! And then add division 1 this year. They managed to have 13 cars on the entry list in the first year with more on the way. Big thumbs up for the Finns, brilliant work they are doing!!

The thing is aswell, if you look at teh clips, there are some really interesting cars in the 4wd section!

I cant imagine they would be quick on a European klevel but the Finns were wlays pretty good at inventing stuff that worked back in the day, so good to see them still at it.

About time Finland came back into rallycross a bit more, when i started watching they were the dominant force in Div1 at least
