BMW Homologation question

BMW's 3-serie got a facelift this year. Is BMW allowed to put these new details (like the grille on the front and the new rearlights) on the S2000 320si without any problems? Or do they require re-homologation? And in that case, do they have to build another 2500 examples of their facelifted car with the adapted engine? Or can they keep on using the 'si' engine because it was produced in the pre-facelift 320si, like Chevy running the Opel engine?

If there's no difference to the base car other than detailing then there's no need to re-homologate. They may need to create a new 'S2000 kit variant' but that wouldn't require another 2500 build-run.

The changes on the facelift is headlights (inside) rearlights, bonnet, rearviewmirrors and the trunk. No major stuff, the S2000-kit can remain the same.

Front bumper is different (surfacing under kindney and above main air intake), but its sutle

Probably OK and allowed to modify above axle line in this case (I believe they are allowed below axle line). If you look at SEAT's various Leon bumpers, they have changed quite a few times over the years and they dont really look like the real thing

As I learned from reading the forum on the Btcc-website, the ugly but no doubt aerodynamic front-bumper of the Vauxhall Vectra needed to be homologated, and therefore were produced and fitted to a lot of Vectra's. Alan Gow had no doubt though that the large majority of those bumpers were removed after inspection and changed for the regular bumper...

in the super touring days, it was all about below and above axle height. Below you could change etc. Above you couldn't. If you look at the current crop (save Vauxhall), they all adhere to this principle, although SEAT does have it smoothed over.

Now the Vectra picnic shelf on the bumper is (IIRC) above the axle line, so maybe thats why they needed to homologate that. I dont every remember SEAT having to produce three different versions of their front bumper
