But if we want to introduce the sport to people who don't understand previous scoring systems, the painting of cars red is surely a little bit easier to understand than the previous penalty system.

I still dont understand why they are qualifying with fuel loads on board anyway.

Why not just let everyone qualify on fumes then they can choose their fuel load for the race?

The current setup only "pays off" when a "fast driver" messes up in quali and is sent towards the back, and how often does that happen? Not much.

Why not let everyone just qualify how they want, then they can choose their fuel loads either on Sunday morning, or if need be, declare their starting fuel load before quali starts.

I hate this whole fuel load quali nonsense.

I totally agree. Revert to qualy on fumes and decide on undeclared fuel loads up until like 15 minutes before the race, or something.

That said, if we must have fuel-load, and it seems we must in some form or other, the best method, from my POV, is for the teams to declare fuel loads prior to the start of Q3 (but not made public) but qualify on fumes.

I know what you mean with this. you can have too much transparency.

For instance, I don't like seeing the dressing rooms and tunnels in Rugby matches. That is the players domain. i'd much rather it was all secret and then they just appear on the pitch to battle it out. It makes it more special that way.

Yes.
Why not spice it up a bit.
Final qualifying (phase three) is on full tanks.....
