Performances in Qualify 2009 (stat)

A table showing the results in Qualify along the four first GPs. The graph looks big but it is a light weight gif, so I suppose it is ok.

The procedure is as follows. In each GP, the best time of the three parts (Q1, Q2 and Q3) are considered. The best gets 19 point, second best is 18, so down to 1 point for 19th and 0 points for the slowest driver.

Those points are simply accumulated along the successive GPs. Adding the two team mates gives the team's score.

Lighter colors means better (faster) and darker means worse (slower). I have ordered teams in a subjective way I thought could be fine for the graph.

Brawn, RBR and Toyota are firmly in the top three. Force India and TR are also "firmly" in the two last places. Renault and McLaren are (surprisingly) in the 3th and 4th last positions.

The middle zone is more unstable. At the beginning BMW was 4th and Ferrari was 6th. Now they have reversed positions, with Williams in the middle of the sandwich.

Comparing shades between team mates we get a clear view of relative and absolute performances in Qualify. The biggest gaps are:

Vettel > Webber (+20): close fought until Bahrain fiasco.
Rosberg > Naka (+21): Of course.
Raikkonen > Massa (+17): The gap is opening... and Massa was runner-up last season.
Alonso > Piquet (+29): Destroyer and destroyed.

When we have more GPs I'll try to filter out the "outliers" (for instance, Webber in Bahrain) to get a better picture about how well drivers and teams are doing.

hgmonaro should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
cool! Can I suggest you use a faint colour for the 'top' scorer to seperate it from the background.
