FIA GT G2 Question
I'm looking at FIA GT results and at Brno 2007, ARC Bratislava ran their Saleen in the G2 class and were one of only 2 cars in their class. Would that technically have gone down in the record books as a win considering their car is basically a GT1 car and it's only competition was the little Gillet?

Technically? Of course. It won the class, therefore it won the class. Whether the class is 'fair' or not is another question, of course. In spirit, it flogged a much slower horse (not that it has ever been the fastest Saleen in the world) and whether it was a fair win could be questioned on those grounds. Of course, in spirit, does the little Gillet win against nothing every race?

G2 is just all the non GT1 and GT2 homoligated cars or when the homoligation years came to an end. So placing all the old/non homoligated GT1 and 2 in one category isn't fair indeed. But they may still race, the only good thing about it

Its more of an enthusiast class than a proper competitive class in that case, im sure the drivers can't complain, they're the ones driving fast around a track in an FIA series

Thing is, last year at Monza, there was a 575 and a Viper GTS-R. Both ran in GT1 as normal, while ARC's Saleen had to run G2. How is that?
There was also AT Racing's C5-R that ran a majority or last year's season in GT1 as well. |

I think the Saleen had a rear wing that was illegal for GT1.

As Dead-Eye states, the Saleen ran the full-width rear wing rather than the GT1-spec wing for 2008. The other cars you mention, by the way, did not really run in GT1, they ran in Citation Cup. Yes, relatively like GT1 but a) homologation could be expired and b) they had to use the GT3 rubber. As a result, AT's C5-R was pathetically slow even when pedaled by rapid Wolfgang Kaufmann.

Good thing the Citation cup was moved to GT2.
Also, what about the ACA Argentina 550s? |

The 550 is still a homologated GT1 legal car so it could still be raced as what ACA did. I cant find on the FIA homologation list the date that this ends, someone else might know.
The only time that I know of that a 550 has raced in G2 was at Dubai 2006 and that was because the car didnt strictly meet the GT1 regulations. |

Well, the 575 is still homologated but I do not see that the 550 is still homologated, here or here. L.P. |

I've looked in both of those lists but cant find it. Maybe its homologation has run out? I'd be surprised if that was the case though.

G2 was originally set up for Belcar competitors to compete at the Spa 24H. This was back when Belcars were about on par with the current GT1 class with cars that were either not homologated or modified beyond FIA GT specs.

G2 & G3 class cars are only guest competitors that won't race a full season!

Why was the Vertigo never homologated for GT2?

Off the top of my head, either there weren't enough road cars built, or that the car had its homologation expire. I've seen pictures of this car in the BPR global endurance series (or some other mid 90's series) running in GT2. Prolly not the same chassies, but still.
After so many years in the FIA GT, Leinders, and Kumpens switched to GT1, with a Ford GT this year. The funny thing is, someone here said that they just got the Vertigo homololated back into GT2 this year. |
