Hey Mountainstar,
Did you happen to catch the Bristol race last night? If you take the leap of faith that Danica could have hustled one of those pigs around fast enough to even qualify, where would you guess she'd place in a race like that? I happen to think that DP is a reasonably capable IndyCar driver. She's nowhere close to Montoya in terms of skill and experience...so why would strapping into another Target COT car result in anything close to the generally uneventful showing that JPM has posted? Patrick has a nice little thing going where she is right now: a stable environment where she has been able to make incremental improvement, and alot of valuable attention without too much negative scrutiny. Moving to NASCAR would create a huge splash, a tidal wave of dollars, and a very wrung out and defeated little swimmer when she was dragged out of the undertow. Sugar Ray Leonard could jump a weight class and come back for a big payday when the circumstances permitted: I don't recall him stepping up for a fight when Mike Tyson was still in the ring. I like seeing Danica exposed, but it won't be a pretty sight after watching her trying to trade punches with a field of NASCAR heavyweights for a few months. The brand would be demolished. |

Danica Patrick is staying at AGR. The deal is done just waiting on the final paperwork.

That would be the best possible result for all concerned parties. Saves you a ton of money on souveniers, too.

I hope that is the case about Danica, as JagTech said, she is in a nice stable environmenet and she is without doubt improving year on year. I know all of us on here enjoy some good natured banter with DanicaFan, (sorry mate i dont know your name) but it was a bit of a worry seeing her linked with a Nascar drive or even worse the USF1 drive, again this isnt a slight on her ability but i just couldn't see either of them working out. I just hope Franck can get a drive with AGR for next season as well because i am sure we could sort out a Danica v Franck thread.

I am thrilled Danica is staying with AGR next year. I will go out on a limb now and say she will be fighting for the championship next year and I feel a championship win coming on.

She'll need to learn how to restart on ovals, and turn right on the road and street courses. But I certainly don't doubt she has the talent and will to do it. Not to mention one of the largest fan bases in motorsport backing her up.

Which championship would that be for?
In all seriousness, she does have some talent but so do a lot of drivers. She's made the name for herself off of the track and that's where her security comes from. She was never really that impressive in Barber Dodge or Atlantic - always running mid-pack, but never quite enough to make it to the front. I know there's a smaller field, but still some very competitive drivers in Atlantic this year (better than many in the IRL field) - I would rate Simona De Silvestro above Danica Patrick. She is an incredibly smooth driver who makes very few mistakes - and unlike Danica she's been winning a lot of races and leading the championship. |

Perhaps not in terms of numbers, but in terms of quality, I'd say Edwards, Summerton, Niemelä, etc are on par with many at the front of the IRL field - and are certainly equal to, if not better than, the drivers that beat her in the Atlantic series. The fact is, apart from one gifted win in Motegi (can you say fix?), Danica hasn't won anything since she raced go-karts.
