Road Rally Courses

Hi everyone, been away for a while what with A Level exams and all, but I come back before you with a new idea.

I'm a big fan of rallying, but obviously it can be more difficult to design rally courses than race tracks...until I thought of this. Theres a webcomic called xkcd that devised an algorithm to generate co-ordinates, and the game involved trying to get to these places from your starting location. I have decided to take it one step further and devise courses from it that could be used for tarmac rallies.

Here is a simple example I based around where I live:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...6,2.463684&z=9

I'm not suggesting we make a thread with everyone doing these because it can be a bit of an arduous process, but can I possibly have some constructive feedback or suggestions?

whilst I am aware of what you are speaking of, I Geo-hash regularly, and it's great fun, are you devising this with successive days of the week?

Also, what about the obvious problem of the motorway?

That is a significant one - you actually need the Home Secretary's permission to close one ...

The way I'm doing it is, as you said, doing successive days of the week, 5 days for 5 stages, otherwise i've found it gets really cluttered. And I'm using google maps to do this, using the "Avoid motorways and tolls" option, so that shouldn't be an issue too much, if that hasn't appeared then google may turn that option off by default when a user opens the page up
