rorym should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Van Diemen

A bit strange that a VD thread/chassis discussion isn't here.
After giving up trying/waiting to get an open wheeler in Australia (the asking prices are through the roof at the monent)I purchased a 1988 VD FF2000 from the USA. Even after shipping it is less than half the price (WELL less!) than one currently advertised in MY105.Came with new engine,3 sets of wheels, new wets, 24 gearsets and misc spares, arms etc, I guess the $AUD to $USD helps at the moment. As this is my first try in open wheelers I thought this would be a good starting point, low maintenance, not too fast but has wings and slicks. It will be interesting to say the least. Barry Singleton (March F2/Swift S2000) is my teacher so I hope I can learn enough to stay out of trouble. Chassis no. is 88RF1310, a bit ironic as I had lots of Cooper S' in my youth! For any others interested, here is the VD Registry.

To clarify, the car I refer to is NOT an FF2000, it is a later model open wheel race car.
I was speaking of open wheeler cars in general. That should suffice.

Some pleasant surprises..
Firstly...the car is a true F2000 exported as 3 cars into the USA in 88...2 x black..1 x red...to Essex the USA agent.
Mine ,I am told was the most winningest car in the year of all the Van Diemens..have all SCCA books with owners and races from day 1, 14 Feb 1988.
Now repainted back to the original black and has stirred quite a bit of interest here..CAMS logbooked as a Formula Libre until the years move up a couple then will be historic...loving it..should have been in open wheelers from scratch..I took to it like a duck to water. Now currently registered with Van Diemen Historic site in UK ...almost a totally complete original F2000 example save for the rear wing..very nice pick up...no intention of modifying it..will be more valuable...so the UK guys say..as the original item.
