Dale Jnr
Being a big fan of both Dale Snr and Dale Jnr I have been saddened to see Jnr's decline over the last few seasons at both DEI and Hendrick. His performance at Hendrick over the last 3 years has been the worst of the four teams yet I feel deep down that he is potentially better than his results show. What is it now? One cup win in three seasons?
My theory is that he will only thrive in his own team and his heart is at DEI (one without Theresa) - how long before this will happen. I can't see him staying at Hendrick beyond 2011. |

He's *not* that good of a driver; he simply doesn't show the pace that his team-mates - one of which is considerably more advanced in years - can and do on a regular basis. he needs a kick up the jacksie or find something else to do...

That's my point - I think he is a top driver and his record supports that, but I agree he has been outpaced by his Hendrick teammates this past three years.
I think it is a 'mind' thing and he would be better suited to a reformed DEI set-up. |

He never took to the CoT. He was always a challenger with the old cars but the instant they brought the box-cars in he made 28th place his own!

Well, compared to his 7 time champ dad and to his teammates and their 9 championships between them, he sucks. Still not as over-hyped as Danica.
I agree with Gomick; never should have joined the enemy and should change teams ASAP. Much like morninggents suggestion that it is all mental and at risk of sounding cliche, the death of his father has changed JR, as has driving for HMS. |

Isn't it one win in four seasons? And that being on fuel mileage at Michigan in 2008, I think? Sad when you think how promising that year started and Dale is not a bad driver at all.
Jeff Gordon is equally as worrying. Fell off the radar since 2007. Again, possibly CoT related since the other teams caught up with Hendricks on that front. Absolute shell of the driver he used to be. |

Agreed on all counts with everyone. A driver who's performance is low enough to no longer make the broadcast crews and camera's cover him much on track. He is still just as marketed as before, and his fans continue to defend him.
However, I think that the big change in his performance was his ALMS fiery crash at Sonoma '04. He just hadn't been the same since |

Personally I think the big change came when Tony Eury Jr. took over the crew chief duties from Tony Eury Sr. (who was the one guiding Junior to two Nationwide championships and 15 Cup wins) and that Junior was starting to slump before the CoT was introduced and before he moved to Hendrick.

Maybe since they are changing shops with the #24 team and being housed with 5 time champ Johnson's team will help.
Other than that, he's just, sorta :meh:. |

Two wins in four seasons I think, and both of those done on strategy.
What I find interesting is that having successfully claimed the scalp of Eury Jr, the Joonyer nation went strangely quiet when the new one failed to produce improved results. Could it be that they're realising that it needs more than a name to make a good driver a great driver? Personally I think its communication - he either can't figure out what is wrong with a car set-up or can'r explain it properly. Even when he qualifies well it's always mid race when his performance falls off the hill. |
