ProTran to LMP2
This week's Autosport (managing to do two pages on sportscars this time round!) reports that ProTran won't develop an LMP1 replacement for the Reynard based current car and instead will go for a turn-key LMP2 chassis.
Always sad to see LMP1 numbers shrink, but he makes a fair point that it's the right sort of place for privateers. In terms of what they go for I reckon it'd be nice to see another Pilbeam on the grid. Thoughts anyone? |

It was a waste of cash to spend that money on the P1, a turn key P2 is quicker.
Radical, Courage LC75 and the upated Lola are all good options. I'd stay well clear of the Pilbeam! |

It will be an all english car - wouldn't rule out Pilbeam or Radical. I think Lola is unlikely and Courage right out!!

I talked with the owner of the car in spa. he told that they believed to get the protran car running with less money than they realy needed.
Why not a pilbeam, think they are fast enough now and the judd engine seems to fit good |

Depends whether you want to be instantly on the pace or work on it.
The Lolas being upgraded next year, yet is currently quicker than the Pilbeam, the Radical's been a revelation, while the LC75 looks to have potential, based on the LC70 and Acuras use of the car in the ALMS. I wonder when customer Acura P2 engines will be available? |

Looking at the relative performance of the various LMP2 chassis out there is tricky at the moment, simply due to the number of chassis actually running.
The Lola's had huge uptake and thus is being vigorously developed. Being fair and excluding the RS Spyder it's probably the car to have, and in bang for buck terms it's what I'd go for. I'd be really interested to see what Intersport could do with Michelins, or indeed how RML would shape up against Penske, but that's another story. The Radical does look genuinely quick out of the box - with either the Rollcentre or standard package. Hard to argue against it, other than the pace of build and whether, if you put an order in now you'd have your car for the start of next season. The Lucchini's yet to show it can seriously compete so let's leave it aside for the moment. The Pilbeam's shown some flashes of brilliance but as a one off it's not entirely fair to compare it with the Lola. Given ProTran's slightly quirky approach (let's be honest, this year's LMP1, for all its charisma, took me utterly by surprise) I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them drawn to the appeal of running a Pilbeam and helping to kick start a decent development programme. Interested whether ss_collins has a genuine insight into this one or whether the conviction it's going to be "all English and unlikely to be a Lola" is more of a punt? |

Another Pilbeam and with an AER in it would be nice and for variety too or a Courage LC75 , so far we dont have any of'em in the LMS .
I was wonderin what in hell protran were trying to do with that dinosaur . What chassis number is it exactly ? Who had it before ? |

Mighty resurrection here.
I'm just wondering whatever happened to ProTran's prototype dream? I know Paul Cope has been racing his Venturi 400 GTR under the ProTran team name, but even that hasn't appeared lately. (I believe the last race was the 2011 GT Trophy race at Brands Hatch) So is ProTran finished racing as a team altogether? |

Mighty indeed. I was reading through this thread wondering why I hadn't heard of any of this until I read your post and realised all of this was over six and a half years ago!

Oh sorry about that! I'm just the kind of person who enjoys finding out any new iota of detail, even if it took place when I was eight!

I was wondering who the hell ProTran was. Interestingly, all these years later we still have Reynard-ish based protos around.

Don't be fooled; ProTran are long gone. I believe the car with the closest links to Reynard would be the Zytek's used by Greaves Motorsport? Correct me if I'm wrong but I am certain that design can trace it's origins back to the Reynard 02/S? I believe the same applies for the Creation Autosportif LMP1 efforts from the latter half of the 00's...

I saw this earlier while trying to find out what happened. I am not sure whether it is or not...
