Yoong Montoya should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
luca badoer - championship material?

would you say luca badoer was talented enough to win a championship? judging by his performances for scuderia italia, forti and minardi, i would say yes. what a shame he didn't score any points

Not a cahance, don't wanna be nasty to the bloke, but if he was WDC material, why is he only a test driver! (even if it is for Ferrari!)

Yeah, he was outclassed by Marc Gene at Minardi in 1999, so I can't really see it happening. But then again, he was mega quick in the junior formulae, so you never know. I guess it'd depend how he'd fit into a frontrunning team. We never saw him drive in a good Grand Prix car, so we know nothing of his overtaking abilities, nor his racecraft really.

Not a chance in the world. He's a good driver, probably capable of a win or two, but he's no world beater. Plus, he's past it by now and too old to really be given a shot anyway.

These days, he could probably do a similar job to Rubens, but if he'd've got a top drive earlier in his career, who knows? It's the eternal question for so many drivers, like McNish and even Barrichello in a way.

He's not WDC material but I expect he's made a good contribution to the development of the Ferrari. They should have let him take the drive in '99 instead of Salo.

Luca is indeed a very good tester, and Ferrari appreciate him. I agree that he could do a better job that Salo (only if we take into consideration his experience with the car). However, due to Italian media, Ferrari does not like the idea of an Italian driver.

At the end of the day Ferrari made the decision (obviously) and people have to ask themselves why, dispite Luca's extensive knowledge of the car he wasn't chosen instead of Salo, maybe the saw him as an ideal teaster, but not racer!

Nah, I'd say it was more than that. Remember that in that year Luca actually worked for two bosses (he drove a Minardi)

Luca is surely a good driver and racer... and those that say "oh, he's never scored a point...":

He was 4th at Europe'99 before the Minardi failed...

He would be a race winner in a F2002, for sure

After the relationship Minardi and Ferrari have had over the years, i don't think Minardi would have stood in Luca's way had Ferrari really wanted him.

Yep, that's what I wanted to say. Luca was a more suited driver than Salo, Minardi could not possibly hold him yet Ferrari did not give him a drive.

I have to agree - as good as Luca is - I doubt whether he would have won the title. I do think he would have done a much better job than Salo had they given him the Ferrari drive that he deserved in 1999.

Badoer seems to be content being a tester for Ferrari - shame cos he certainly deserved better.
