My guess is that John Ruston is the only Tenther who has experience of the Tour. Believe he is preoccupied with The Flying Scotsman Rally at the moment.

Roger Wills also made an appearance, two years ago IIRC.

Roger appears on the entry list for this coming event, as does Rick Pearson.

There are a couple of people on here doing Tour Auto and at least one was on Flying Scotsman.

Not me.

May go back to doing T A next year but days are long and not very much competition mileage.

The regularity boys pay the same but play second fiddle to the competition people and the total competitors are split about half / half regularity / competition.

Some of the event timings are somewhat dubious!

I did two days on flying Scotsman and flew to paris this morning to do Tour auto competition section. Never done it before. First impression is that there are so many cars .........very crowded timetable in April which is a shame.
Will post more thoughts at end of week

The other DB2/4 was possibly Nick Ruddell in a car that we largely built for him, had a text from him this morning.

Need to check the results myself once I understand the website.

Excellent result from Nick/Tim & Nigel/Robert, very well done !, especially as Nigel had a rear damper bracket break so he disconnected the damper, also brake issues & he had the wrong fan belt in his spares box.

Just back from my first tour auto and overall had a successful week. Nick Ruddell and I took our DB2/4's in the competition section, and finished 13th and 20th overall and 3rd and 4th in the index of performance (French handicap system), 1 and 2 being Porsche 356's. Very pleased with result as alongside normal issues of drum brakes I did the last three days with a missing rear shock absorber...... Event is enormous (250 odd cars) and pretty full on as the days are long and there are restricted times for servicing etc and major logistical problems with service parking which add significantly to stress levels. As john has mentioned before the timing system is opaque and queries about results/decisions are not encouraged. Will probably do again in two years time, be much better prepared and do worse!Nigel B

well what a week that was!!! We managed to get to the end and drive accross the line last night. We had a distributor break halfway through a stage and the exhaust tailpipes randomly broke off. Apart from that it was a very enjoyable week. Lots of long driving days through some great countryside and took in some very good circuits for the race sections. Im shattered but enjoyed the week. Made a few more mates from various other historic prep companies and generally had a good time.

The Pre A 356 things have won the handicap forever!

Not many competitive stages considering mileage.

I have suggested that people do the Tour Britannia before they see if it's worth a crack at T A. Cheap way to check as T A does make a hole in your piggy bank
like all Peter Auto stuff these Days ,bloody expensive!

We are going back next year in Regularity with 356.

Seems after all the fuss the 356 that won the handicap was a US Spec car rather than a HTP job

Old hands at the event say its not as good as the old days but we say that about most things

Decent coverage of this year's event being repeated on Motors TV this week at various hours of the day if anyone is interested.

The 4 Porsche 914/6 were checked for capacity, one was legal with a 2.0l engine, two others with a 2.4l and the last one with a 2.7l.

It's always been known that the 914 engines have always had iffy capacities as its so easy to interchange 6 cylinder engines. It also effected some 2 litre ish 911's.
The 6 cylinder engines are a bag of worms. No wonder people shy away from 911's and 914's.

No need to shy away John - let's have pukka cars and more testing if that's what it takes. Best wishes, Robert
