That's the point. The current cars are not marvellous, and lack of indentity, except for one or another...problably if they were in the same livery, an unawared observer would see no differences.
The 70's and early 80's cars represents the most creative times from the engineers, and still the beauty of the package was considered. For eyes used to see star-wars-like cars can be odd, funny and ugly, but you have to place yourself in the proper time to appreciate it. |

Uhn... yeah, but take a look at the 70's championships... 8 to 11 winners, now only 4 to 2... not very close then.

indeed Bononi... the last funny season was 1999, with Stewart and Jordan winning, just like in the 70's when Hesketh and Shadow once won...

EERO said it all for me, although I'll have to say the rear engine Lotus's before the advent of wings are the epitome of Formula One for me.
Todays cars are indeed too narrow, and their jutting prows and invariably square cross sections with tacked-on plastic bits make them nearly indistinguishable, but for their paint and (ugh) graphics. I'm off to find my copy of John Frankenheimer's (RIP) "Grand Prix". Now that's poetry in motion. |

Yeah, the 1998 narrowing of the cars was another coup to the already beated-up beauty.
