To commemorate Y2K, the classic offroad enduro known as the Baja 1000 will be extended to the Baja 2000. Actually, the Tecate SCORE Baja 2000 will cover only 1745 miles of the Mexican wasteland. The race will run from Ensenada to Cabo San Lucas non-stop. The race has always been one the true greats of endurance racing, ranking alongside the 24 Hours of LeMans, Paris-Dakar, the 24 Hours of le Touquet, and the 96 Hours of the Nurburgring. A true test of equipment, desire and persistence.
When asked about it, Ironman Ivan Stewart, replied that there was no way he could do the race solo. Larry Roesler will share driving duties with the legendary driver. Stewart gained the nickname Ironman after winning the Baja 1000 a record three times in solo drives as well as a record 17 wins in the Baja 500. He holds the record for the Baja 1000 at just over 19 hours at age 53.
