Alex Yoong
Now, I know Alex has been a bit, well, rubbish, for most of this season. But yesterday I think he was really good. For all the time the coverage was on the Webber/Panis/Irvine battle, Yoong was no more than 5 or so seconds behind them, keeping de la Rosa behind. This must have been his best performance of the season, and I think we should recognise that!
Well done Alex! |

He did a fastest lap that was quicker than Webbers apparently!

I'm inclined to agree. I don't know what was with the Jaguars in this race - especially at the beginning, but Alex Yoong certainly made one of his better performances - perhaps his best of the season, as you say.

Yeah, Alex did well.
Don't forget, Alex raced there last year, and it was Webber's first look. But I was quietly impressed. I expect him to be pretty quick at Suzuka too. He raced there last year, and he would have done some miles there in Formula Nippon. Last edited by mac; 30 Sep 2002 at 08:10. |

The guy on the onboard radio told Alex what a good job he did after Alex's engine blew up. I thought he had proberbly his best weekend in F1, qualifying within a second of Webber is usually regarded as good, and he was never far away in the race, i also thought that he did a good job getting out of the way whilst being lapped even though he was trying to stay in touch with the cars in front. Usually he only has to get out of the way, not worry about racing anyone.

So perhaps a few more seasons in F1 could make him into an average driver, as compared to "bad driver" image he has now?? Though I don't recall his contract being renewed in '03???

Yup, a decent performance yet again from Alex - seems the break has done him a lot of good. Perhaps he's the new Pedro Diniz - if he sticks it out for a few more seasons he'll develop into a pretty nifty midfielder. Who knows?!

I think he will be Minardi's test driver next year - good luck to him if he can swing it.
