Gerard, my comment was totally tongue in cheek. I agree, I would rather see the continuations, converted road cars etc than not get to watch historic racing.
The values of original cars is such that many won't risk damage so I fully understand. These cars are from my era, the cars I had toys of in my formative years. When I held the Bishops Waltham Grand Prix an E type coupe frequently beat the red and blue single seaters, and holds the front room lap record in perpetuity. |

Please Mike no offense in my words, its an open mind discussion. When young I had the opportunity to race good 911's like 2.7 RS and 3.0 RS in Grp3 form. Three years or so ago, got a phone call from Monaco. Famous collector and racer on the phone.
The person says he just bought one of my 3.0 RS, asking if it was possible for me to authenticate the said car. Here we go! I said it was probably the one I totally wrecked at Montlhéry in '75, hence we had to change the body. Not tongue in cheek! Believe me or not, this man never admitted that it was not fully original in his terms adding I was wrong on the car! |

I'm sad to say that the E type tragically came to an end against the infamous front wall hairpin. A few days later it reappeared in my older brother's hand but I knew it wasn't the same car, despite outward appearances.

It wouldn't have seen which way my Scalextric Porsche 804 F1car went . If I didn't drop the dam n thing off at every other corner - tricky things on the limit are Sixties' Porsches .

Loving this diecast room floor circuit memories!
I used to create entire replica grids of various series using the matchbox, corgi, hotwheels, majorette cars that were as close to the real ones as possible. Touring cars in the 80s was fairly straightforward unless one needed a Colt Starion or BMW 635! I substituted a MB superfast Datsun 280Z for the Colt which obvs faced various scrutineering issues, let alone blatant cheating and the closest bee-em available back then was a Siku 633. Rovers, Capris were no problem although Corgi got them the wrong way round in scale size!! There were plenty of decent F1 models around too iirc. Anyway I digress hugely I apologise lol. |

The actual slot racing cars are very well done I think being sometimes more accurate than other models are far cheaper. They have a magnet fitted to improve the speed in corners too…
Will, what a great picture! I've been watching many of your on-board videos and still wonder how your gearbox can stand such a treatment, your first gear sync' is really bullet proof. A good gearbox does not explain your results! |

a 50p blue tac'ed into a mini works wonders for handling, although they do get warm after a few laps |

Remember Will ,Zef is the winner of handicap at Le Mans Classic in Grid 2 and ninth overall in a 356!
Does that mean he’s invited to the 356 International Drivers Club? |

Oh yes....we have a special handshake and everything.....the only requirement for entry is that you have at some point sprung the boot lid on a 356 while spinning!!

Happy to help but the voice over needs a bit of help
The race is a mixture of specials and real cars that could be bought Both the winner and Alvis are specials followed by the standard Nash, Talbot, AM Ulsters,Riley .Morgan 3 wheeler etc. I understand the races going forward will either be for HTP real cars with a totally separate race for specials.. ( or no specials!) Interesting to see what happens at Silverstone but am aware that there will be two races within one at Spa that was a success two years ago. Let’s hope commentators understand what’s going on. |

This week's HistoricMotorsportTV edited highlights is all about "tin-tops"
Four decades unleashed in a full one-hour race…Touring car star Steve Soper (in his RS500) takes on the immensely rapid R32 Skylines, E30 M3’s & BMW CSL (Batmobiles) in the Historic Touring Car Challenge. Former F1 & WEC driver Tiff Needell in a Capri battles Batmobiles, Z28 Camaros, Alfa GTVs and Rover SD1’s in the Tony Dron Trophy. Also from the 60’s, the epic battle between the Lotus Cortina’s and Mini Coopers in the much loved Under 2-litre Touring car category.
