Bernie to make TV - pit/car radios mandentory for all teams?
Just read on planet-f1 that Bernie is trying to make all teams comply by having their radios broadcast over the F1 TV coverage.

I hope it happens. But I can see Ferrari doing their best to prevent it.

Nah, they'll just start issuing their instructions in Navaho.

I hope it happens - as it will make things very interesting and it will mean that every team will know what the other are doing ! ! ! !

Maybe Todt will be using a complicated type of communication with flags (with the help of the tifosi ofcourse), so he can say: "it's just ze fans waving zeir flags, no team orders!"

The other teams only have to have someone sitting watching Sky to hear what the others are saying.
It would be bloody interesting to hear what everyone's saying, but you can't help but feel they'd start using smoke signals and flares up the top end |

is Bernie getting senile?
the teams have spent a fortune encrypting their radio broadcasts so that hackers can't eavesdrop and Bernie now wants the TV rights to them? I liked the hoax about the Grand Prix of Somalia better |

Maybe they would start to use false signals, for example, Montoya says " The chicken is out of the bag, and is being fried " which translates to - " My engine is out of oil, and is nearly dead "

Well Sky has had the car radio for quite a few teams this year. The story that Autosport has states that Bernie wants full access to radio in qualifying only so that interviews can be made to drivers as they come back to the pits and we can hear what they're on their flying laps. It's not for the race.

I don't really see any point to allowing viewers to listen. The commentators just talk over the top of it or stop halfway through, the reception sometimes ain't that good and half the time the chat just ain't that interesting, and most of the time it is coded.
We might be subjected to listening to drivers talk to teams about ordering a Pizza (like Dale Jr last week in Miami) |

Or you might get to hear some candid comments from some drivers about other drivers, as used to happen when Andretti and Tracy had mutual accidents!

It will increase the entertainment factor. We dont need to know what is meant by everything that is said but it does make for interesting conversation. Now we can hear when RB is told to move over!! I bet at the end of all the races Ferrari transmissions will get special attention.
Anything that makes the racing more entertaining for the viewers get a thumbs up from me. Yes, this may mean the teams will speak less and speak in codes but it also means that we have the challenge of figuring out what all that they say means. |
