Street legal prototypes, nothing new. Remember the Targa Florio, the "private" practice sessions on the public road, and the PROVA plates?

THere was a prototype Porsche 962 road car built in 1992, but the Dauer team actually produced enough of road cars to get it in GT1 and won Le Mans. The car that just wouldn't die, the 962. Wasn't the Toyota GT1 road car sold?

Yes

Yes, there was a TS020 (GT-one) road car built. Not sure how many, though.

Built for Count Rossi, of 'Martini' sponsorship fame, apparently from a racer-

I've also seen a photo somewhere of a street-legal Can-Am car- either a McLaren or Lola....

A few years ago I remember seeing some coverage of the Middle-Eastern rallying scene, and an interview with one of the top drivers out there- think it was Mohammed Bin-Sulayem. This interview featured some of his car collection-Ferrari F40, and the roadgoing versions of the Porsche 911GT1 and Mercedes CLK-GTR amongst others......

I'm guessing he's SERIOUSLY wealthy.....

I am a nissan fan And even though it isn't as pretty as the Mercedes CLK-GTR, I think I 'd love to have it...of course with a mercedes-CLK-GTR in the car aprk for me, the maclaren F1, a GT40 new and old, a viper gts-r, a corvette 427 guldstrand, a Porsche GT2, a Ferrari Modena-and maranello the maranello would be for taking the kids to school, and maybe a Bentely Red label Turbo- you know to pick up grandma when she visits... of course a Lotus Super7 with a V8 for romantic weekends and for picnics, maybe a cobra 427 for me and dad to be nostalgic in....

Homologation Corvette C5-R

Not exactly street legal but a tempting possibility:

This was the production-based, original C5-R test mule. After that life was finished, it was converted back to a homologation car for ALMS and ACO approval.

I believe they had to build at least 25 cars, but they used to exploit a loophole, that meant they could get away with one, by saying the homologation had been done, when they were building them.
