Maybe someone put their wet socks in there to get them dry but forgot about them?

Ah! So he was running the old "wet socks in the engine" trick was he? No wonder he did so well. The FIA will definitely have to put a ban on the use of wet socks for future races.....

Fisico would be faster than Michael in the Ferrari, given enough time to aclimatize.

And lets hear the brilliant reasoning that would have led you to believe that Fisi would have had only a couple of points had the race continued. Try to do it without saying "what if" or he "would have", because, lets face it, you don't know how much fuel he or anyone else had in their tanks - and he was pulling away at a good clip when the race was stopped. There's always one, isn;t there. Last edited by Inigo Montoya; 7 Apr 2003 at 12:47. |

What's this BS about a lap 53 finish??? Fisi crossed the line for lap 55 when the safety car sign was issued. Almost immediately Alonso had his terrible accident and after that the race was stopped ... with Fisico in lap 55! Minus one according to the rules, is the standings of lap 54, which had Fisico already in the lead! Did I missed something or is a certain someone a victory being denied? |

Minus 2 according to the rules. Read the other threads. I can't believe Raikkonen's won ONE race and people are already going conspiracy-ape.

Not sure who is going conspiracy ape - and the rule is as you state it. But the fact of the matter remains that it is a STUPID rule, and as I have stated previously - it makes a far worse mochery of F1 than anything that happened at Austria last year.

Guess what, F1 engines need big cooling and overheat if the car goes too slow for too long. Hence flambe ala Jordan.
There was no conpiracy, but the rule obviously wasn't designed for this scenerio. Fisi had first place fair and square. |

I agree with Snub. Sitting there without getting the required air into the rads is certainly not going to do that Ford any good...

In that case it would have probably died after his next pitstop, or after another safety car outing... there were quite a few laps to go.

Thinking back to Stewart GP, didn't they have engine fires while sitting on the grid? I don't remember any of the others having this much of a problem with overheating. Is it something that Ford do? Too close to the limit?

Engine cooling is as much to do with chassis design as anything else - Jordan had problems with the Mugen engines before by going too tight on radiator size and aero detail.

I think the fire was more to do with the Remnant's of the oil in Fisi's "Dick Darstardly" oil slick layer, overheating. It was just a shame that Webber hit the slick not Kimi.
Blimey, is that the time... |

So now...we are predicting that GF doesn't deserve a win because his engine "MAY" explode in the later stages of the race??

Well if it was running at race speed (or near enough), it PROBABLY wouldn't have gone up in flames. But then when he pitted for fuel, he PROBABLY wouldn't have won anyway.
Swings and roundabouts, chicken and egg, etc... All POSSIBLE outcomes. Where are the physicists/mathematicians? They can work it out with chaos theory, probability or some other science. Maybe they could do it for all the races, let the FIA know the winners before the race and save millions of quids!!! |

i think fisi should have won as he was leading fair and square when the race was finished, i only hope he hadnt had the chance to win as coming 2nd would have been amazing, but not when he should have been first. still, fisi is too good to be a driver who only won a race because of rain and because it was stopped. one day .................
