Well Teddy, lets see, what Formula One team does not have, or seem to want to have a corporate image ? I think that would be Minardi. I wonder why that is ?

I meant it is cold...McLaren evokes no passion for me unlike Ferrari, Jordan, and a few other teams. Of course I never watched F1 back in the Senna/Mansell/Prost days so maybe that has a lot to do with it.

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |

I have friends who work at McLaren and they could not imagine working for any other F1 team. They might look cold from the outside but it is a very friendly family atmosphere within - so they say.
Ron is a racer, that's why he lets his drivers race. Unlike Ferrari of course. Michael has never had a team mate who is allowed to give him a hard time. Therefore when they have the best car like last year, of course he is going to rack up numerous victories because the other quick car in the race is not allowed to win. It's the way his contract is worked out. Ron would never allow that and rightly so. I do feel however that he could relax a little on the technology issue and think more of the show. Anyone who has been around the McLaren factory will tell you. There are glass cabinets full of exhibits of FIA banned components. McLaren feel aggrieved at the cost of developing and building these parts and not being allowed to use them. I guess next year they may need a few more cabinets! |

Andrew, I think your post sums it up. I may not agree with everything that Ron says, but it is clear he is doing what he thinks is right for his team and the sport that he is so passionate about.
I have also heard things about how great it is to work for McClaren. A what fun family (and hard working) environment it is. An example of this is perhaps how McClaren decided to keep the new factory near Woking and not relocate to Lydden because the people who worked at McClaren didn't want to uproot. I didn't know about about the cabinets full of banned technology. Great stuff! Class. |

Sorry to be so petty buts its 'McLaren' not 'McClaren'. You should work in the Daily Telegrapgh typo dept - they keep calling JPM 'Juan Carlos Montoya' and last week called Michel Jourdain French !
RCS - in a petty mood :-) |

I have seen Juan Pablo called Juan Carlos alot in various media...how hard can it be to get it right? What's wrong with just Juan Montoya anyway?

Sorry, it was a typo. caused by quickly typing MCLaren and trying to correct the capital mistake quickly! I do it alot - quite often it ends up as 'MCcLaren' too! P.S. Is it rcs or RCS? Last edited by Adam43; 13 May 2003 at 12:58. |

I on ly can repeat what I said in the poll about teams:
McLaren image is deeply imprinted by that of Ron Dennis, of course. And to us in Italy Ron resumes all the negative stereotypes that englishmen suffer in Italy and , in general , in Latin Europe, with that sense of superiority. I also pointed out that , on the contrary, Frank Williams resumes all the positive ones: nice, open-hearted, etc Last edited by climb; 15 May 2003 at 13:49. |
