I've just finished reading Richard Nobel's book 'Thrust' and I must say it is an incredible read. Richard once held the world speed record, and was the man behind the first ever supersonic car. I don't necessarily agree with all he says, and what he did, but the last couple of paragraphs are fairly stirring:
"You only get one spell on this wonderful planet, and it's up to you to make the very best of it. If it benefits other people as well, then so much the better. It's a hard grind and you can't expect anything other than that. Why should you? You shouldn't lead yourself, or anyone else for that matter, to expect that you are going to get an easy ride. It doesn't happen that way. Lunches never coem free. You make your own progress and your own luck. By determination, commitment, refusal to give up or be straitjacketed by convention or the short-sightedness of others - describe it as you will - you are the one who creates the airflow beneath you own wings" |
