Taylor to Panther - official!
"I am delighted to have been selected to driver for Panther Racing and Menards/Johns Manville," Taylor said. "This is a great opportunity for me and I would like to thank John Menard and everyone at Panther Racing for making this possible."
"Mark ran a full day of testing for us at Texas Motor Speedway and was turning very competitive laps almost immediately," John Barnes, co-owner of Panther Racing said. "He has proven throughout his career that he knows how to find victory lane, and we are looking forward to watching him grow into a solid IndyCar Series competitor." Well done Mark, after this year you bloody deserve it Full story. |

Mark Taylor in IRL
Mark has been confirmed tonight as the driver of the No 2
Menards/Johns Manville Dallara entered by Panther Racing. So the "curious decision" to go abroad to pursue his career did pay off. He will test at Phoenix during the first week of December. |

NO Shizzle?
Wow this seems like a left field pick for panther doesn't it? And on the somber notion of target- who will fill the second car there? |

I don't know where you have been gt, but Mark has been in pole position for this seat ever since he won in Kansas from the back of the grid. You had to be there!
Re Target, I think they will leave a suitably respectfull period before announcing a replacement. |

Now that Manning is confirmed as well, the 'Battle of the Brits' will add an interesting twist to 2004

The only factors counting agaisnt Mark at first will be the need to adjust to the IRL, as the IPS standard isn't as high, and the potential friction between Menard and Pantehr's people. Merging two racing teams with distinct characteristsics can't be easy, epseically if work is divided between the two shops.

From what it seems (but if you know for sure it's different please tell me) Panther is expected to paly a key role, kore than menard.
If the new hierarchy is clear to everybody there'll be no problem. |
