What would you use?
I am starting to think about what oil I will use in the Gen III when it gets to 10000km. Holden recommend 15w/30 only. I spoke to a bloke I know at Holden's and he said I should only use that grade in a mineral oil.
I am a fan of Mobil 1 and was going to use it, but the grades are 5W/50 or 0W/50. Now these are nowhere near the grade recommended. The only other thing is Mobil has just realesed a 10W/30 grade Mobil 1 but I have heard of no one using it yet. |

I've been using Mobil 1 5W/40 for a few years. Admittedly not in the V8 engine but nontheless it goes well, doesn't burn much and revs more freely.
Why would you use a mineral oil if you can get a synthetic of the same grade? |

Is the choice of a mineral oil by holden related to the GIII's reputation for glazing rings and burning oil?
I'd of thought that once it was run in (surely by 10K) going to a synthetic would be a good idea and the best would be a 0W50 (or thereabouts). Am using Castrol R myself, but can't remember the spec's off the top of my head (used to be able to remember that stuff...must be gettin' old ) |

What specifically worries you about the 0 - is there a downside to good cold temperature viscosity (or am I getting this wrong)?
