Why did Hodgson struggle in the last half of 2003?
He won 9 races in a row in the first half of the year, but from Misano onwards he only won 2 races. Was he taking it easy or was Xaus really THAT great in the second half? Xaus did well, but I just don't understand why Hodgson ended up throwing the bike down the road trying to beat him when he comfortably had the edge on him in the first half of the year.

Half and half. By midseason he had it all but won so he could afford to cruise to the title. Not saying that he did, as Xaus was on fire in the second half and would have taken some beating anyway. But with a lead he had, why not just follow him home with no hassles...

He had the championship in the bag?
He had a 2004 contract in the bag? Xaus got his act together? It really was a shame Xaus didn't get serious until it was all over. |

I think that Hodgson just simply went to sleep, he seemed to lose intrest mid season, then just before it was too late he realised that Xaus was beginning to catch him up in the points standings once again so he picked up his game a bit, for my money though he never quite got back to the form he was on early season, sure he did get faster again but he didnt have the desire in the latter part of the year that he had at the beginning.

Once he was close to the title his motivation won't've been 110%, especially as he knew he was about to become a father, and probably knew the MotoGP deal was in the bag. Xaus, meanwhile, did become better on the bike as the season went on, and of cours he knew he was riding for his future.

Well I thought that 2003 will be Hodgson's year, but I was hoping that Xaus will be danger for Britains Champ's campaign. That was not to happen and that is a shame, for Xaus mainly. I really think that Hodgson will be the better one again in 2004, Xaus is good but not as good as some of the top guys in top class.
