UCLan Class of 2003

Hope it is OK to post this here. I received this from Nick Johnson of UCLan.

Nick here from UCLan. I have something that the students would like you to spread to a wide audience. It's just a thanks and goodbye from the class of 2003, as they will be moving on to pastures new for next season. Unfortunately, I
still have to deal with the ugly sods on a day to day basis.

The UCLan Racing class of 2003 would like to take the opportunity to extend their thanks to all who have helped and worked with us this year in the North-West Formula Ford Championship.

After a sluggish start to the season, with no drivers, the team offered its services to Mike Waite, who, although probably worked off his feet, must have found the prospect of having twelve students enthusiastically trying to help out quite daunting… Mike also helped us by providing parts when needed and sharing his vast knowledge with the students throughout the year.

It was during this first meeting that we met the three drivers who would be run at varying stages of the season by our team. Firstly, thanks to Steve Clayton and Stuart Barton, who took part in a number of events (on and off track) with the team.

From The August round at Anglesey on, Chris and Charlotte Hodgen, of Absolute Media, did a fabulous job of ensuring that we students could not possibly want for any more superb bacon butties (or barms as we are trying to become accustomed to call them). Duncan from Infiniti was also a great help in ensuring that our evening social activities did not suffer in providing us with BBQ supplies and organising ‘underground’ scooter races. Oh, and Chris also drove his Van Diemen in the races… We progressed well together building on experiences, continuously managing to improve performance throughout the season and are looking forward seeing how well he does next season with Simon and the new crop of students.

Thanks also goes out to double NWFF Champion John Hutchinson who drove Chris’ car at the Silverstone Festival and helped with testing a couple of days later at Oulton Park. This was a great opportunity to dial the car in and has given us some very useful data to use in the build up to next year.

And last, but far from least, we’re sure we speak for the entire paddock in thanking Ian Smith for organising the events, without whom this would all not have been possible.

Thank you.
