Mosley Plans Todt Succession
According to Autopsport, Ferrari's managing director, Jean Todt, will succeed Max Mosley as president of the FIA if Max gets his way.
Autosport's sister magazine, F1 Racing, has long been tracking rumours of Todt's preferment, but, as exclusively reported in the new (July) issue of F1 Racing, the fact that Mosley intends to groom Todt for the FIA's top job is no longer in any doubt. http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=27757&s=5 Last edited by Led ZeppF1; 7 Jun 2004 at 09:08. |

Hahahahahahahaha that's a good one!
That will put the Ferrari conspiracy theorists on overdrive. |

Mosley also makes a rather unfair criticism of Jackie Stewart, which seems to ignore his achievements as a team owner and in other areas of business.
I wonder if Jean Todt's a mate of Max and Jackie isn't? Doesn't seem very sensible to come out with this. |

The problem is, Toidt is no interested at a FIA role; he's gonna get the power at Ferrari, since Montezemolo will soon become just a honorary president, provided his commitment at FIAT will absorb his energies 100%.
Thus linking Todt with FIA is basically an prtography mistake: a T has been missed |

Todt ? That's very unlikely... I think if someone would replace Mosley, it will be someone completely stranger to the paddock.

There are some very well placed mights and ifs in that.
Max thinks Todt ould be good at it.he's probably right. He does say if JT wasn't working for Ferrari and "After Ferrari… he might feel as I do and see the fascination of trying to make the bigger picture work." This will become a long running, slow news week, drag it up again until it happens (or can't happen) story. |

The basic difference between racing a team and managing FIA is that in the first case you work to win, in the second you just have to make a politician work to let others battle.
Normally the choice between the two paths is genetic. Methinks Todt enjoys being part of the competition more than spectating. |

Todt would naturally struggle to be impartial in Max's role though.
Any ex team boss would. Ron Dennis said as much in an interview in F1 Racing this month. |

It may actually be that in order to avoid any accusations of bias, Todt in an FIA role would take a harsher stance against Ferrari than with any other team, though.

Can't see Todt doing that though.....he's a stubborn bugger when it comes to those red cars!

But he wasn't until he was employed by Ferrari.
When he worked for Peugeot he was just as staunchly supportive of them. |

Isn't Mosleys position the head of the FIA. For there to be no hint of favoritism one would have thought they would look outside of F1 for a replacement. One with nothing to loose if they put a few owners noses out of joint. One that has enough cash not to be interested in whats in it for him.
May I suggest Donald Trump. The Grumpy1 |

There was defiante bias in favour of Brabham when Bernie still owned them, so any conspiracy theories may well be justified. Even if Jean does leave Ferrari, I wouldn't be surprsied if he finds himself tempted to rule in their favour, after such a long and productive attachment.
I think the ideal man for this job could be Mario Andretti - much respected guy who everyone loves, he knows racing, could help the crucial US market, and appears to have a lot of ideas and plans. |

Isn't Richard Branson known for his love of racing? Maybe he's an option? Or Damon Hill, who's quite a successful businessman now?

Sir Jackie would be a good choice and I'm amazed at Mosley's dismissive attitude towards him in that article.

What's the big deal if Moseley wants Todt to succeed him? FIA's most actions or rule changes over past 8 years were implemented to favor Ferrari one way or another.
I, for one, would welcome Todt becoming the president of FIA. At least that would bring the cat out of the bag. Though I seriously doubt it. FIA presidents are usually considered 'impartial' (whatever their affiliation on the 'inside'). Jackie Stewart, imho, is too good to be true.. he's just that perfect candidate whom all fans want to be the president but never gets to become one. He's just not in that circle. |

I don't think there's really an FIA bias in favour of Ferrari.
Any controversies have just been circumstance. And I say that as a definite non-Ferrari fan. |

I'd like to see Dave Richards at the helm.....as long as there was no bias. He knows the way forward.
I couldn't see Todt being a success....I don't know, I just think he may have some strange ideas that we wouldn't like. Just a gut feeling. |

Todt i think wont succeed Max because no matter if he really is impartial... the controversies that the Fia is biased towards Ferrari will ignite again which will npt be good for the image of the sport.

I like Jackie Stewart, but possibly Max's dismissive attitude to him is down to the fact that JYS is one of the top guys of the BRDC.
