Seriously though I think its a good move by Nissan, at least it's better then a big boxy 4WD, it fits in with the racers in a way.
Quick job, you have no idea how much this pained me to make.

I hope not.

You want something capable of completing it's single chase lap before the leaders catch it on thier 2nd racing lap

Wouldn't that bring new meaning to "Come Alive, Come and Drive.....Nissan"

Dr Re would have eyes like dinner plates, especially if his buddy spinner Lynch was at the wheel.

He has, and will be superior to 98 % of the drivers out there in appreciation of fans and volunteeers.

I enitialy thought the same , until I found out the truth, you win Bathurst by the rules, but loose a great friend at the same time.

lay off Jim and his comment.

The first time ever in the history of motorsport, the safety car will be quicker than the actual race cars.

The best time I can find for a V8 Supercar around the Nurburgring is 9 minutes 43.415 seconds.

The GTR lapped at 7 minutes and 38 seconds.

Please ignore the above post. The Commodore's time is for the combined old and new circuit.

You can't use that as a comparison. That ``V8'' is Mal Rose's ancient VX commodore - waaaay slower than the TeamVodafone's finest. It's run on a tight budget by careful gentleman drivers with nothing like the freedom afforded to works Nissan test drivers (ie empty track, half a dozen replacement cars ready if you bin it.)
More importantly, that time was set at the Nurbriging 24 hours, which uses a special combination of Nordschliefe and GP circuit (for its first rate pit facilities) that is four kilometres longer than the traditional 20.8km `ring.
The fastest lap for the circuit in that configuration is 8:43.367, set by a seriously worked (but not turbo) Manthey Racing / Porsche GT3.

Yeah and not any old GT3 either - a GT3 RSR that was run out of the factory (alledgedly) by Manthey. Totally irrelevant comparing times in Mal's car to the GTR times for all the reasons that you state.

The GTR is an awesome car but anyone thinking that in its standard road car trim on road tyres a GTR would be quicker around the mountain than a leading V8 is out of touch with reality.

Sorry but its nowhere compared to 'true' supercars. The GTR is a true supercar which in showroom form is one of the quickest in the world.
The holden and ford is not. Good cars, but not inthe same catergory or league. Sorry, but this is a cold hard fact.
It is pointless to compare V8SC and the GTR as that is not the point of the exercise (pace car). I dont know the point but its not 'mines bigger than your's'.
If there are too many problems with the V8SC crowd, Im sure the GT championship will be happy to have the GTR as a pace car.

Curious though, accepting money from anybody, as if they wanted Nissan could run some beautiful ambush adds. And it will draw attention to the car the V8s had to ban so they could actually win a race.

Who said 17 years? The right question from a newsprint journalist at a press conference at Clipsal to the right figure could provoke a very interesting denial.

As you say the punters don't care as a rule, so why should they care how long ago it was?

The GTR is an awesome car full of technology, just wondering how well it would convert to either the GT3 or GT2 sportscar classes... Are AWD and active this and that allowed in those classes?

Nah, they have to be RWD with simplified bits - eg the Ferrari GT2 doesn't have any kind of e-Diff or mannetino function, just a nice LSD.
Reiter GT3 Gallardos (as run by Ross Lilley etc) are RWD and the upcoming Audi R8 is also RWD (usually quattro).

I wonder if Jimmy Richards and Marky Mark Skaife could do it? Yet again, the lads might crash it on Conrod, and call the crowd a pack of bum holes.
