It's not about that. It is about needlessly handicapping the teams and drivers that do the best job. Ambrose, Lowndes, Skaife et al. went to the back for infringements, failures and the like.
Don't have a problem with them being forced to charge through from the back. I have a problem with a guy that qualifies and pole and wins the first race being "rewarded" for his performances by starting 30th in the following race. |

Even Ford's Motorsport Manager, Ross Booth, is not too happy about it.
He had this to say in a press release issued this morning: Booth did raise concerns about the introduction of reverse-grid races in 2006. "I'm all in favour of improving the spectacle of V8 Supercar racing," said Booth. "The fact remains that the best team and driver should be crowned champions. I'm not sure if that will be the scenario in 2006. "Competition is all about the best rising to the challenge. There's no doubt that 2006 will be a massive challenge with the reverse-grid races. I wouldn't want the best team or driver to have their championship hopes end because of an incident in one of those races. "There are plenty of smart people in the pitlane who will try a range of different scenarios in the first two races of the weekend. It can't be good to have a situation where teams will want drivers not to win that first race so that they are better positioned for the reverse-grid race. "There's also no doubt that the cost of competing will be increased through reverse-grid races. Even minor panel rubs will mean new spares, this can only increase costs. "With such a massive change to the racing format I would have thought that this would have been put to all teams for input. The teams would have canvassed their business partners and then consensus would have brought a decision about the idea of reverse-grid racing." I get a feeling that, just because V8SC says it will happen on November 26, 2005, it might not be a done deal come March 2006. |

You are worried about the enzed race, what about a reverse grid at Indy car were you can NOT pass. Looks like Aussie Bernie and his cohorts at TEGA have another great idea on the hands. Well done you CLOWNS. |

What can I say if it hasn't already been noted (have only read the thread title) but its the formula has become more about circus entertainment than about real racing. There is no need for reverse grids... we have seen quite a lot of passing this season as opposed to not enough before. The real problem is the circuits, the cars have outgrown most of the circuits around the country.
The best circuits are those like Shangai where cars can go 4 wide and still have elbow room... Australia has such vast land mass and the tiniest and most primitive of circuits!!! |

I say lets get serious about our entertainment & stuff the racing up its own RRR's.
Every track needs to build a 600 mt clay oval in the infield, and on Friday night under lights the top 20 drivers do an old fashioned speedway "Pole Shuffle" to determine the starting order for the first race. Then on Saturday night the top 20 finishers from race 1 will be eligible to compete in Race 2 of the weekend; A 40 lap race around the clay. with support categories being Speedcars (midgets) & Super Sedans (Dirt's own V8 supercars, running 410 ci (6.75 lt) engines) Race's three & four will be held on Sunday, but cars are to held in Parc Ferme, following the Saturday night race, and under VESA supervision, the only work crews can do is wash the mud from, and check the tyre pressure of the knobby speedway tyres prior to the first race of the day. Tyre changes (back to slicks) will only be permitted during a CPS, the pit window will not open until 60% of the race distance has been completed. And yes the 12/14 non starters of race two will still be on slicks from race one, so as to give them the ability to catch up on the points the didn't get by not making the field of the night time race. The final race of the day will see the starting order drawn from a hat, just to keep it interesting. And points will be deducted from teams who speak out publicly against this new format. Tony Cochrane is alleged to have said: " Vee Eight Supercars Australia, knows more about what the fans want than the fans themselves, I mean Wade Aunger. and John Hughes before him, took existing speedway rules & changed them to suit their own Ideals, and 'World Series Sprintcars' was a great sucess. We at VESA believe we have the right to do whatever we want to with this series, and if teams don't like it, Bob Jane can sell you a cheap 2nd hand NASCAR..... See how much exposure you get running around in a junker car in a future housing estate."............... [insert Dr Evil laugh here] "At VESA, we know how to make money: lots of money & now we have married Australia's favorite Summer V8 sport with 'The best Touring Car Series in the World', i can see no reason as to why people would ever want to go to any other form of car racing ever again !! I mean if I hadn't bribed, sorry convinced Nick Senior to take all that sponsorship money out of Rallying, we'd have had to make this show into rallycross, but i'm far happier with this new Asphalt/Dirt combination series, in fact what I love the most is now being able to charge the race fans twice: Once to see the day racing & again for the night events"...............[insert another Louder Dr Evil laugh here] I think I love speedway more than I hate CAMS............... |

Doesn't avesco want to introduce a control chassis for 2007, apparently there was a prototype down at the island ???
Perhaps the reverse grid races is a means for teams to destroy all they current stock of useable race cars and pave the way for avesco to sell everyone a new chassis for the new season this time next year cheers. |
