One problem with CAMS, it has never evolved. Whilst they are the FIA recognised Motorsport body in Aust, they still live in the 50's when they were formed.
Some points raised by fellow posters about how cams operates etc, should also remember a turbulent time in the late seventies. Have a position at CAMS, but don't pack a lunch you wont be there long. Give CAMS thier due, they came together to have one organisation to manage motorsport in Australia. Like all organisations, some wont agree with this. (Here is a tip: Join any junior sporting Club, league, etc and see what happens- 10 years of junior sports- I still wonder how we have national teams, oh yes, the money at the top end, doesn't always filter to grass roots) AASA- there ideals are good, if you want to enter motorsport, check the cost of a AASA license V a CAMS license. Now we have decision to make: If AASA end up running all the TARGA's, state Champion ships, maybe even National Champs. F/Ford, etc, will they in turn become same as CAMS. I say this as each state elects people to the council. these people are from the grass roots , each state reports to an elected and appointed board to ensure all is sweet in Oz Motorsport. As I stated above, ten years Junior Sport's, each state will have it's own view on how things are run, each state will wont their own class/category etc , some may even wont one of these to be a National Championship. Will we still have the same problems, Will AASA if went truely national have a constitution that allows all members a vote, right from the latest new guy to the old hand with 50 years experience? As pointed out CAMS may have problems, AASA has some good points but to tear one down and replicate it again will not work in todays enviroment. Just ask CART/CHAMPCAR/IRL, NSWRL/SUPERLEAGUE, Cricket Australia/Kerry Packer. In the end, they got together and sorted it out, unfourtunatley, there was a lot of damage done and support, participants, fans, etc lost. It is easy to get new people in , harder to get people back. Like any organisation, if the members have a vote , then vote wisely. Wether you like it or not, there needs to be one body to represent Aust Motor Sport. And, a lot of rule and regs have change since 1953, so don't be suprised if CAMS/AASA local car clubs etc have to evolve and chane some things in line with each states laws, Fed Govt laws, Aust Tax Office- not for profit Organisations, Aust Corparation Laws, Public Liabilty, and last if we are a member of FIA-(European Racing ) then we have to follow there rules and regs. SO I dont care who owns who, just as long as we can race cars, bikes, boats, drags, speedway, off road, billy cats, go karts, BMX, and yes HQ Holdens, with one organisation controlling it. Democracy- Of the people, by the people, for the people |

Oh WOW another thread from someone who just happens to manage two race tracks in the country and are trying to create a monopoly on motorsport! anyone in motorsport who isn't doing things the exact way they want them to do or a way that is detriment to their agenda = "bag them"
The same people who who are doing everything they can to help the council close down Willmington's Marulan activities. Same people who behind the scenes have caused more crap in motorsport than anyone else in the country combined! Only problem is that the people who feed them just can not see threw the crap Thing is your commentary about CAMS isn't anywhere near as damning as some of the happenings in Benalla, so be careful what you say and confirm your facts before you post your comments! |

Hmmm - sounds very much like a CAMS sympathiser coming out of the woods or just coming out.
Although have to say he/she/it is really up to date - when was this thread started? |

CAMS calling for TaskForce submissions
February 08, 2010
Members and clubs would be aware that the CAMS Board has convened a Task Force to consider and resolve a range of issues raised within Victoria. For a copy of the Terms of Reference for the Task Force click here. The Board recognise it is impractical to have all members who raise an issue to be permanent members of the Task Force, but believe it is vitally important for all interested parties to be able to make submissions to the Task Force. These submissions will be consolidated with the issues raised by members at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Sport & Club Development Council (Vic) held on 30 November 2009. Submissions to the Task Force are now invited from interested parties. Submissions should be forwarded via email to taskforce@cams.com.au or alternatively by post to Task Force (Victoria), PO Box 147 Caulfield East Vic 3145. Submissions need to provide sufficient detail to explain the issue and provide a contact person and club (if applicable) for the submission. Anonymous submissions will not be considered. It may be appropriate for some persons who make submissions to attend a meeting of the Task Force in person to expand on/explain their submission, and this opportunity will be afforded to these persons as considered necessary. Only written submissions will be accepted and submissions to the above email address or by post close on 1 March 2010. http://www.cams.com.au/en/Media/News...ask-Force.aspx |

Hmmmm - in house collection of submissions therefore no accountability as to whether they are actually 'received' and 'considered'. Wonder how many people will scream later they had made a submission which wasn't 'received'?
Best way - registered post with record of delivery. |

recieved an email the other day, suprised the usual suspects have logged on to say " see ya. told you so" . Disapointed. I love reading scripts for the commercial network story lines , Home and Away- V8's to race O/S,
Neighbours- V8's move head office to Willow Bank. THe Mentalist- How does CAMS work. COLD CASE- Everything CAMS ever did, Criminal Minds- CAMS doing all can to wipe out motosport. Ah well, I just have to wait. Maybe they are not on the list. |
